Aplerbeck Castle Feud: Medieval festival with a heart for the homeless!

The Aplerbeck Castle Feud e. V. is back and is captivating the whole of Aplerbeck with a colorful event from June 27th to 29th. Under the motto “Middle Ages, Market and Humanity”, the association has organized an event, the proceeds of which will go to urgently needed help for the homeless. Donations are collected diligently at the sausage grill, which flow into the club's important activities.

What is particularly important to the organizers is providing those in need with lunch bags on Mondays in the rooms of the Ewaldi community. Treasurer Olaf Tkotz has denounced a high level of need, which clearly shows how necessary such help is. The event has not only developed into a showcase for medieval professions, but also carries a social idea that emerges from the history of Diakonie, which has been concerned with supporting homeless people since its founding.

Medieval flair and colorful stalls

Market visitors can look forward to an exciting program. On Friday the market opens from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., while on Saturday and Sunday it opens its doors to all age groups from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. respectively. A total of 20 stalls are waiting to delight visitors with handmade products such as ceramics, spices, liqueurs, leather goods and more.

A highlight is the Adlerturm children's museum, which offers exciting games from the Middle Ages for little visitors aged 4 to 12. Here the children can take part in sack races, throwing and skill games or get creative at the make-up stand. The whole spectacle is framed by a medieval camp in Rodenberg Park, where robed people display their tricks and even a druid waits for curious visitors in a hermitage. Of course, a knight show fight should not be missing, which fascinates young and old spectators alike.

A tradition comes to life

The roots of the medieval market go back to 2014. At that time, district mayor Barbara Blotenberg talked to Jörg Wiedelmann and Karsten Urban about the Kaiserstraße festival in order to bring the idea of a medieval market to life. Since the first market in 2015, the event has continued to evolve. The rapid growth led to around 50 dealers and around 25 military camps in 2016, despite the setbacks caused by the corona pandemic, in which many dealers had to accept loss of earnings.

In 2023, the “Aplerbecker Schlossfehde” association was finally founded in order to spread the organization across several shoulders and strive for non-profit status in order to attract future sponsors. The fight against homelessness is a central concern of Diakonie, which has been committed to helping people in need for over a century and continues to find new ways to provide help.

For all those interested in culture and supporters, a visit to the Aplerbeck event is not only a celebration of trade and joy, but also a significant contribution to social responsibility. Be there when they say: “We help and celebrate!”
