Dortmund is looking for 400 trainees: Discover your career opportunities in 2026!
The city of Dortmund is committed to training the next generation of skilled workers and is therefore looking for around 400 training and study places in over 40 professions for the 2026 recruitment year. This initiative is aimed particularly at students in the graduating classes of 2026 and includes a variety of exciting career opportunities. With over 11,000 employees, the city is one of the largest training companies in the Ruhr area. The training offer not only offers qualified training, but also excellent opportunities for employment, as [Nordstadtblogger] reports.
A new addition to the training portfolio is the dual degree program “Bachelor of Science – Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering”. The practical part of the course takes place directly in the city's civil engineering department, where the prospective engineers will be involved in the planning and construction of important infrastructure projects such as bridges and noise barriers. A very practical course of study that offers students a solid foundation for their future professional careers.
Diverse training offerings
The training offered by the city of Dortmund ranges from jobs in administration to social affairs, security, media and information technology. What is particularly noteworthy is that the Dortmund fire department offers combination training, for example as a system mechanic or media technologist with a subsequent qualification as a fire chief. This diversity makes it attractive for young people to choose a training position with the city.
The advantages for trainees are clear: In addition to personal support and various support programs, the young talents can benefit from a job ticket and fitness discounts. Modern workplaces and flexible working hours also play a role. The remuneration is also attractive: trainees in the first to fifth year receive 1,400 euros per month, while the university of applied sciences tuition fees are covered. During your studies you will also receive 1,400 euros per month, as [Dortmund.de] explains in detail.
Details about the dual study program
The dual course of study in civil engineering is offered at the Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences in Mülheim an der Ruhr and covers a regular period of study of nine semesters. Here, students not only learn theoretical content such as mathematics or building physics, but also work on practical projects. The close integration of theory and practice is intended to optimally prepare future engineers for their future activities.
Participation in this dual study program requires at least a high school diploma or an unrestricted technical college entrance qualification. The training year begins on August 31, 2026, and interested applicants should apply online via the city of Dortmund's application portal between August 1 and November 30, 2025. Equal opportunities are very important, so applications from women and severely disabled people are expressly encouraged, as stated on [Aubi-Plus].
