When the dachshunds compete in Munich, the atmosphere is great. The big dachshund race took place at Motorworld from October 11th to 12th, 2025 as part of the “Dachshund Race & Dog-World” event. This year an impressive 124 dachshunds were registered to take on the challenge on a 40 meter long race track. There was a huge rush and the starting places were quickly filled. “We are thrilled with the response!” said organizer Desireé Rohrer, who launched the event. There were many well-known faces among the dog owners, such as the owners of Dachshund Lady Gretchen and Dachshund Bazooka from Innsbruck.
Munich has a long tradition with dachshunds, and the race highlights how connected the city is to these little canine charmers. The most popular participant was “Luitpold”, who had already won twice and covered the distance in just 4.4 seconds last year. It is interesting to note that some Dachshunds will return directly to their owners after starting rather than racing for victory.
An event for all dog lovers
The event was aimed not only at the participants, but also at the dog-owning spectators and dog-loving visitors. More than 150 exhibitors presented their products and services, including food specialists, dog trainers and animal physiotherapists. A newly designed outdoor area for camping holidays with dogs provided additional incentive. In addition, workshops, shows and lectures on topics such as working dog training and dog love were offered.
The first awarding of the Dog Merit Cross “Dog Hero” was particularly exciting. Who would have thought that a photo shoot offer was less in demand in this lively atmosphere? There are just too many exciting things to experience! The veterinary check before the race ensured that only healthy and socially acceptable dogs could take part in the competition, which gave the event additional safety.
