Volt in Düren: Digital Meet & Greet inspires new members!
A lot is happening in the political landscape in Cologne, and the young Volt party in particular is attracting more and more attention. With its pan-European, progressive movement, Volt is active in 29 countries and has already established itself in Germany. The party made its mark in the last NRW local elections and was able to enter the city councils of Aachen, Cologne, Bonn and Düsseldorf. They have recently also been active in the Düren district, which is providing further impetus. The Herzog-Magazin reports that interested parties have the opportunity to take part in a digital meet & greet via Google Meet every Thursday at 8 p.m. The link is: meet.google.com/ffq-pfeb-aae.
Volt Germany was founded in 2018 and is the national branch of Volt Europe, which was launched in 2017. This party-political movement aims to intensify cooperation within the EU and dreams of a future European republic. Their joint program points focus on the major challenges of today, such as education, digitalization and social equality. According to the Federal Agency for Civic Education, the party is striving for reforms within the European Union and has already achieved notable successes in the European Parliament: from one MP in 2019 to probably three MPs in 2024. More on this will follow on the bpb website.
Political approaches and goals
With a view to the 2025 federal election, Volt has presented an ambitious program. This includes the digitalization of administration, the establishment of a digital ministry and measures to promote housing construction, in particular by converting empty buildings into affordable housing. A central point is the legal anchoring of the right to affordable housing and the sustainable conversion of the energy supply to renewable energies by 2035. Support for structurally weak regions is also important in order to jointly address the challenges of climate change. The party provides information about these goals on its website in order to promote its vision.
Volt's domestic political classification, which sees itself as a progressive, socially liberal force, is also original. According to popular political assessments, such as those from DVPW, Volt is in the left-wing camp and is strongly perceived as an economically moderate left-wing party. According to current surveys, their range of voters is not considered to be underestimated: in the upcoming European elections, they, together with the newly emerging opposition, could get above the two percent threshold.
So it remains to be seen how Volt will develop on the political stage. Her focus on citizen participation and sustainable solutions could help her gain the trust of voters and further consolidate her position in the German party structure. With a clear plan and a committed team, the party is pursuing a strategy that proactively addresses the challenges of the future while placing the European idea at the forefront.
