Colorful summer festival in Düsseldorf: Celebrate international diversity!

On September 13, 2025, the Hofgarten in Düsseldorf will be the venue for a colorful festival under the motto “Düsseldorf is colorful”. Between the Theater Museum and the Goethe Museum, along Jägerhofallee, a diverse program will be offered from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., which aims to promote exchange and encounters between citizens. Over 40 stands and a large stage with international music and dance performances ensure a lively hustle and bustle. A special highlight are the drumming activities for children and the opportunity to practice yoga outdoors. Culinary specialties from all over the world round off the offering. Entry to this event is free, giving everyone the opportunity to become part of this unique cultural event.

The summer festival also represents an important occasion: it celebrates the opening of the new one House of Cultures Düsseldorf, which will open in fall 2025. This intercultural center is being built on the Yorcks Campus, not far from the adult education center and the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, and will offer an impressive 600 square meters of space for encounters, education and culture. Through close cooperation between associations, initiatives, politicians and committed citizens, the idea of creating such a center has been pursued for almost 15 years.

Celebrate diversity and strengthen integration

The event is supported not only by numerous associations and initiatives that present their work, but also by Düsseldorf residents who actively participate in the celebrations. The aim is to make international urban society visible, and the summer festival will set an example for an open and respectful community in Düsseldorf. The House of Cultures is intended as a central integration project in urban society. It will offer people with and without an international family history a point of contact and also support their social participation.

The recent Council decision to finance this project in spring 2025 is considered an important milestone in creating a place that promotes dialogue, education and participation. The vision of the house also includes supporting civil society engagement and strengthening respectful coexistence through intercultural exchange.

A symbol of cultural diversity

Such an initiative is particularly important given the current challenges caused by the pandemic, climate change, geopolitical changes and migration. The Cultural integration initiative also addresses the need to shape social change constructively and to include everyone living in Germany. Cultural diversity, which is celebrated in Düsseldorf, is a strengthening agent for social cohesion and a driving force behind respectful coexistence.

The summer festival “Düsseldorf is colorful” will not only be a festival of colors and sounds, but also a decisive step in promoting cultural participation and integration. It allows many voices to have their say and is a living testimony to coexistence in a diverse city.
