Düsseldorf celebrates volunteerism: cordial mass at Corneliusplatz!

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the fifth edition of the volunteer fair took place on Corneliusplatz in Düsseldorf, an event that was entirely under the motto “A Matter of the Heart”. Around 100 clubs, institutions and organizations presented themselves and offered an exciting overview of the diverse opportunities for volunteer work in the state capital. The event was not only colorful and interactive, but also warmly designed, so that everyone who was interested in volunteering got their money's worth. Düsseldorf.de reports on the numerous participatory activities that invited people to become active.

The participating organizations included both well-known players such as the bat rescue center and zentren plus, as well as new faces such as the Royal Rangers Boy Scouts and the self-help organization “The Sputniks”, which deals with the Russian-speaking community. There was a special premiere for the Düsseldorf Carneval Committee, which promoted the winter customs and the Rose Monday procession with an oversized Hoppeditz. The Mostertfreunde, who are dedicated to the history of the “mustard city of Düsseldorf”, were also there. The Repair Café enabled visitors to repair defective devices directly on site.

A day full of interaction

The mayor Dr. Stephan Keller didn't miss the opportunity to visit the trade fair and talk to volunteers. He was impressed by the diversity of voluntary work and emphasized how valuable each individual's commitment to the community is. Bundestag member Sara Nanni, who acts as security policy spokesperson, was also present and used the opportunity to promote the first German Veterans Day on June 15th.

The volunteer fair sees itself as a platform to get people excited about civic engagement and to win new colleagues. According to lokalklick.eu, the goal is to give citizens an insight into the wide range of voluntary activities - whether in the areas of culture, sport or the environment. There were not only information stands, but also exchange opportunities and lectures on various topics.

Volunteering as an important part of society

The importance of volunteering is undisputed in Germany. According to Statista, over 86,000 sports clubs, over a million people are involved in the voluntary fire department and countless volunteers in social institutions, churches and charities. These activities are crucial to the functioning of society and promote community cohesion.

Admission to the fair was free and physical well-being was also taken care of. Snack and drink stands invited people to linger, and the appearance of cabaret artist Wilfried Schmickler created a cheerful atmosphere in the afternoon.
