Israel strikes back: launch massive attacks on Iran!
Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, the situation has escalated dramatically. How MDR reported, the UN Security Council met for an emergency meeting in New York today, June 13, 2025, after Israel carried out several attacks on Iranian locations. These military actions, which began that night and continue to this day, were described as a “pre-emptive strike” by Defense Minister Israel Katz.
Israel continued the offensive, which goes by the name “Rising Lion,” on Friday morning. According to the Israeli army, over 100 targets were bombed, including nuclear facilities and military facilities. The true scale of the attacks is alarming: Loud Time More than 200 fighter jets were mobilized and in the first hours after the attacks began there were already reports of at least 78 dead and 329 injured in Tehran province. Other cities such as Tabris and Shiraz were not spared.
Iran threatens retaliation
The Iranian leadership viewed the attacks as a declaration of war and threatened retaliation. Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stressed that Iran would avenge the attacks. The operations targeted by Israel led to some violent reactions, and not just from Tehran. Several Arab states and Turkey condemned the attacks as a breach of international law.
The attacks on Israeli military targets are not without preconditions. The Israeli government argues that the offensive is necessary to halt Iran's progress in its nuclear program as Tehran has come dangerously close to an irreversible threshold. Deliberately chosen strategically, the targets of the attack include secret missile launch systems.
Historical context of the conflict
The Middle East conflict has its roots deep in history, dating back to the 19th century. The depth of the conflict cannot be underestimated. So wrote bpb, that the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip after the Six-Day War in 1967 led to an ongoing settlement policy. In addition, the Oslo process for conflict resolution, accompanied by violence and extremism on both sides, remains failed and unsuccessful.
Since Israel has been forced to mobilize reservists and station military troops in combat areas in the wake of the attacks, the situation has worsened dramatically. In response to developments in the region, airspace in Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon was even closed, while the airport in Tel Aviv was closed.
With this escalating situation, many experts fear that the disputes could drag on for more than two weeks. It will be interesting to see how diplomatic efforts develop and whether a de-escalation of the conflict is possible in the near future.
