MSV Duisburg: Starting the new season with fresh talent!
The new season is just around the corner and MSV Duisburg recently officially started summer preparations. The start of training took place on Westender Straße and was led by head coach Dietmar Hirsch, who is back in the 3rd league after a turbulent last season. Around 250 fans came to support their team and the players themselves seem motivated to face the challenges of the coming year.
MSV has announced a transfer double pack for this year's preparation. With 24-year-old Conor Noß and 19-year-old Ben Schlicke, they have gained two promising newcomers. Noß, who comes on a free transfer from FC Blau-Weiß Linz, brings experience from the Austrian Bundesliga and will strengthen the offensive with his versatility and strong dribbling style. Schlicke, son of ex-Bundesliga professional Björn Schlicke, is moving from SpVgg Unterhaching and is looking forward to returning to a traditional club like MSV, where he was already trained.
A well-coordinated team
The training session included passing exercises and initial game elements. A total of 25 players were at the start, including new faces such as Niklas Jessen, Rasim Bulic, Gabriel Sadlek from the U19 and the 17-year-old U19 keeper Jihan Masseling. Despite the addition of Schlicke and Noß, coach Hirsch emphasized that the majority of the team remained together, which made work easier. Only substitute keeper Julius Paris was missing due to a gastrointestinal infection.
The team has clear goals for the preparation. The main focus is on further development, especially in the tactical area. The first test match against Duisburg SV 1900 is scheduled for next Saturday. A training camp is also planned in Epe, Netherlands, where MSV also stayed last summer. Hirsch expresses the hope for further transfers in order to strengthen the team in certain areas.
The challenge of the new season
MSV Duisburg has an important season ahead of them. After a year in the 3rd league they are now returning and the goal is clear: staying in the league. The club's financial situation is tense, especially after the impending bankruptcy case was averted in October. However, the purchase of the club's premises by the city for around 2.5 million euros took an important step towards stability.
A total of 16 players are still under contract, including top performers Patrick Sussek and Jan-Simon Symalla. Ten contracts expire at the end of June and with promotion these contract terms could be extended. Coach Hirsch, who played for MSV for seven years during his active career, described the promotion as the highlight of his coaching career to date. The fans can be curious to see how the team will develop and whether the long-term dream of returning to the second division can be realized.
Overall, MSV Duisburg is facing an exciting time and it remains to be seen how the team will present itself in the preparation phase and in the upcoming test matches. The pressure is there, but with a well-coordinated team and fresh talent from the transfers, the way to a successful season could be paved.
