Bomb Busters: The cooperative game of 2025 is exciting!
At an exciting event in Berlin today, the cooperative board game “Bomb Busters” was crowned “Game of the Year” 2025. The award, which now looks back on over 45 years of history, came from the club's jury Game of the Year e. v., which chose from more than 475 new products and thus demonstrated a good feel for the latest trends in the board game market.
Created by talented Japanese author Hisashi Hayashi, "Bomb Busters" takes players on a thrilling journey in which they, in groups of two to five, attempt to cut the correct cables of a ticking bomb through clever combinations. With a total of up to 66 missions that require tricky number puzzles, plenty of thrills are guaranteed. The jury particularly praised the game's special comic look, which gives the exciting topic a touch of lightness and at the same time strengthens team spirit Radio Ennepe Ruhr reported.
The competition and the nominations
But “Bomb Busters” wasn’t the only game that entered the race. “Flip 7” by Eric Olsen and “Krakel-Orakel” by the author group 7 Bazis were also on the nomination list. While Flip 7 scored points with possibly a broader player base of 3 to 18 players and a faster game time of around 20 minutes, “Bomb Busters” ultimately won with an impressive reader vote of 76 percent (190 votes). “Flip 7” received 18 percent and “Krakel-Orakel” got 6 percent, like the platform Adventure board games shows.
The awards are highly sought after. The award for the best children's game of 2025 went to “Top the cake!” by Wolfgang Warsch, while the “Connoisseur Game of the Year” was awarded to “Endeavor: The Deep Sea” by Carl de Visser and Jarrat Gray.
The game and its features
With a playing time of around 30 minutes and an age rating of 10 years and over, “Bomb Busters” is ideal for evenings with family or friends. Rated 8 out of 10 on BoardGameGeek, it shows that entertaining games don't require a lot of time to be enjoyable. The game is also currently on offer on Amazon for around 30.54 euros, which makes it an attractive purchase. Graphic designer Dominique Ferland helped make the game visually appealing and a real eye-catcher.
Since its first presentation in 1979, the “Game of the Year” award has developed into one of the world’s most important honors in the field of board games. The aim is to reward games that appeal to the general public and are popular in families, schools and social institutions. Over the years, in addition to the main prize, the club also listed awards for children's games and expert games to meet the different interests and needs of players.
It is clear that “Bomb Busters” is the game of the year 2025 and will bring joy to many players in Germany and far beyond. A good knack for teamwork and a bit of luck are required to master the missions and win the bet against time.
