Cultural exchange in Witten: IGA 2027 highlights tourism!
A lively hustle and bustle for the planned International Garden Exhibition (IGA) 2027 recently took place in the LWL-Museum Zeche Nachtigall in Witten in the spirit of the exchange. As part of the “Coffee & Connect – Network in the afternoon” event, which took place at the end of May, around 30 experts from various areas came together to discuss the potential of this exhibition for tourism in the region. Organized by the EN agency and the Ennepe-Ruhr district, Katja Kamlage welcomed those present, followed by a greeting from Gerben Bergstra from the LWL Museum. The participants, including representatives from district cities as well as from Hagen and Bochum, had the opportunity to discuss topics such as participation in the IGA 2027 and cooperation until 2030 in moderated discussion groups. The high interest of the participants illustrated the region's potential for future tourism, as Ruhrkanal.news reported.
The core of the discussion revolved around the development of parks and gardens in the Ruhr area, which are important for the IGA 2027. Numerous projects are being launched with the aim of highlighting and further qualifying the region's cultural green heritage. In this context, the regional open space network plays a crucial role, as it is characterized by historical gardens and parks as well as sites of industrial heritage. Current urban open space design projects are also part of this initiative. This development is an important part of the integrated urban development that, according to the IGA's official website, was launched in 2027 iga2027.ruhr.
Sustainability and synergies in focus
Another central theme of IGA 2027 is the sustainable development of the region. During the event, synergies will be developed to promote a future-oriented and sustainable tourism offer in the Ennepe-Ruhr district. The meetings, which take place four times a year, are intended to serve as a platform for developing ideas and support sustainable tourism development in the region. The specialist impulses and discussion rounds offer a space for creative exchange between the different actors. The idea that the initiatives not only promote the garden exhibition, but can also sustainably enrich the general tourist offer in the region is also very popular.
The IGA 2027 is pursuing an ambitious concept that not only aims to design green spaces, but also relies on close cooperation between the cities and regions in the Ruhr area. Project ideas from the entire region are integrated into the design, which lays the foundation for successful joint work. The focus is not only on the existing green spaces, but also on the development of new projects that do justice to the cultural and natural heritage of the region, as can also be read on hochschule-bochum.de.
