Bloody attack in Essen: 19-year-old found with stab wounds!

On the night of August 13, 2025, a brutal incident occurred in a parking lot on Bischoffstrasse in Essen. A 19-year-old German was found with serious stab wounds. The fire department informed the police at 1:30 a.m., who immediately dispatched emergency services to help the young man. Despite the serious injuries, the rescue team was able to treat him on site and take him to hospital, where fortunately his life was not in danger. However, the motive for the attack remains unclear and the background to the crime raises many questions.

Witnesses reported an unknown man who fled in an unknown direction after the crime. In a large-scale manhunt, which also included the use of a police helicopter, the officers have so far been unable to catch the perpetrator. In order to shed light on the matter, the murder squad led by the Essen public prosecutor's office took over the investigation. The police are asking the public for help: Anyone who can provide information about the crime or the fleeing perpetrator is asked to call 0201/829-0 or email hints.essen@polizei.nrw.de.

Another incident on the same day

The violence in Essen is not letting up. On the same day, but already in the afternoon, the police reported another incident at Viehofer Platz. A 29-year-old Syrian from Essen was involved in a physical altercation and also suffered serious stab wounds. The verbal argument that began between him and an unknown perpetrator escalated into a violent altercation that left him with life-threatening injuries. Here too, the rescue workers managed to bring the injured man to the hospital, where his life is also out of danger.

Here as there, the identity of the perpetrator remains unclear. The description of the alleged attacker in the 29-year-old's case provides valuable clues: He is described as a male, around 25 years old, dressed in a white T-shirt and with a black fanny pack in front of his chest. The police are also calling for witnesses to report this incident in order to find the perpetrator.

Violent crime in focus

As the statistics show, violent crime is a pressing issue in Germany. They account for less than 4% of all crimes recorded by the police, but they have a significant impact on people's sense of security. Around 217,000 violent crimes were registered in 2024 - the highest number since 2007. This development is no coincidence; Economic insecurities and social pressures could play a role in the increase in violence. According to the BKA, there are significant risk factors, especially among those seeking protection.

The fact that the number of violent crimes has been rising again since 2021 and that the proportion of young violent perpetrators is increasing disproportionately is a further cause for concern. In 2023, emergency workers also experienced a peak in violence against their service, highlighting clear societal problems.

Much remains unclear, but one thing is certain: the situation requires quick action and the support of civil society. There is something there, and we can all do our part to make our streets safer.
