Big festival in Düsseldorf: Celebrating 33 years of the old town soup kitchen!
On August 23, 2025, a very special event will take place in Düsseldorf's Old Town: The Old Town Alms Kitchen is celebrating its 33rd birthday with the “Food for Poor and Rich” campaign. From 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Burgplatz expects more than 1,000 guests to come together to not only enjoy good food, but also to send a clear signal for responsible coexistence.
The Old Town Alms Kitchen has made a name for itself by providing freshly cooked food to over 200 needy people every day. To mark the anniversary, 300 liters of pea soup will be available free of charge - there is also a vegan option on offer. If you're slightly hungry or thirsty, there are grilled sausages, coffee, cakes, Schumacher Alt and other drinks at fair prices.
Music and community
The event is not just an opportunity to eat, but also a cultural highlight: a varied music program ensures a good atmosphere. The cult band “Inferno” opens at 12:00 p.m. with hard rock covers, followed by “Jazzophine,” which plays jazz classics at 1:30 p.m. At 3:00 p.m. the Dead Dates will be on stage and will be playing punk hits before “Nachspiel” ends the evening with rock and pop at 4:30 p.m. All bands donate their music to a good cause.
This great event is financed entirely through donations. The supporters include the Düsseldorf municipal utilities, the Hinkel bakery and the Schumacher brewery. Admission is free and guests are encouraged to exchange ideas and socialize with each other to strengthen the sense of community.
Make a mark
“Food for Rich and Poor” once again underlines how important it is to work for a humane society. In times when the gap between rich and poor is widening, it is even more important to come together and show solidarity for those in need. This event shows that everyone can make a contribution to sustainably improving the lives of those in need.
Mark your calendars for August 23rd – it will be a celebration for all generations and a great day to stand together for a better society!
