Free two-wheeler checks on the Lidl Germany Tour in Essen!

There are exciting events coming up for all bike lovers in Cologne and the surrounding area! The Lidl Deutschland Tour begins its first round on August 20, 2025, and ADAC Nordrhein is making this a special occasion. On the Expo site in Essen, right next to the historic finish area of the Zollverein Coal Mine, the ADAC offers free two-wheeler checks for all visitors. Here, bicycles as well as pedelecs and e-bikes can be put through their paces by experienced two-wheel experts. From the lighting system to the brakes to the gearshift – everything is examined. Anyone interested can stop by between 12 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., and best of all: the offer is aimed at members and non-members. And don't worry, the little guests are also catered for with a bouncy castle, wheel of fortune and the popular ADAC mascot Buddy! presse.adac.de reports that this is a perfect opportunity to cycle through the summer safely and well-equipped.

But that's not all! The bicycle action days will take place in several cities in North Rhine-Westphalia during the Easter holidays, from April 8th to 16th, 2025. In places like Euskirchen, Düsseldorf and Krefeld, cyclists can pick up free bike checks every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The offer is the same affair of the heart: lights, brakes, gearshift and engine are checked for road safety by qualified craftsmen. Here too, no pre-registration is necessary, which makes things even more uncomplicated. The police in Euskirchen and Düsseldorf are supporting this project with tips on traffic and accident prevention. Children can also look forward to a great program with Pedelec and helmet simulators. adac.de emphasizes how important this safety measure is for all cyclists.

The focus is on cyclist safety

The safety checks are particularly necessary when you take into account the current number of accidents. According to the Federal Statistical Office, a total of 441 cyclists died in traffic accidents in 2024 - that is 16.0% of traffic deaths. The increase in accidents among Pedelec users is particularly dramatic. This fate awaited 192 people and unfortunately the number of cyclists killed has increased by 11.4% since 2014. It is interesting that older people are particularly affected; 63.5% of cyclists who died were 65 years old or older. destatis.de points out that the majority of accidents are caused by misunderstandings in road traffic, with cyclists being largely responsible for the accident in many cases.

It is therefore important, especially now, to increase safety on the roads and to travel with well-maintained bicycles. All ADAC events offer the perfect opportunity to familiarize yourself with the best practices for safe cycling. Whether at the big event in Essen or the many bike action days in North Rhine-Westphalia - everyone gets their money's worth here!
