On Sunday, July 6, 2025, the 5th edition of the popular park picnic took place in Flöha's Cotton Park. Organized by the Flöha trade and festival association, numerous visitors gathered for a convivial afternoon in the countryside. The event started at 12:30 p.m. and offered a colorful program for young and old until 4:30 p.m. Beautiful old trees created the perfect atmosphere for a relaxed picnic, while there was no shortage of bouncy castles for the little ones.
But the picnic had even more to offer. The members of the trade and festival association ensured that no one remained hungry with culinary delicacies and refreshing drinks. A special note to participants: In order to protect the environment, they were asked to bring their own dishes and cutlery. There was also a new reusable cup with an attractive Flöhaer motif that fit the motto of the event.
Diverse offers and special highlights
Over the course of the afternoon, visitors were able to take part in various participation activities and presentations. Activities included a hula hoop class, yoga in the park, natural history tours and various sports such as volleyball and badminton. The TSV 1862 Hartmannsdorf dance group impressed with an impressive performance, while the musical accompaniment by Conny Schmerler and Georg Domke created the right atmosphere.
A highlight was Stefan Tschök's book presentation about "What? Chemnitz?!" which resulted in a rainy discussion about the Capital of Culture year 2025. Information about the work of the Chemnitz rescue dog group was clearly presented by the volunteer team led by Manuel Grießbach. Here the helpers showed how important the use of rescue dogs can be in an emergency.
A place full of possibilities
Flöha, the picturesque town in the Ore Mountains, offers a varied program of events all year round. In addition to the park picnic, the city festival in summer with a festival mile and live music as well as the castle park festival are popular attractions for locals and visitors alike. If you want to explore the surrounding area, you will find ideal opportunities to enjoy nature on the walking paths and cycle routes. The Flöha zoo also promises exciting insights into the animal world.
The variety of events in Flöha, which promote getting to know the culture and nature of the region, speaks for itself. This also includes sporting events such as marathons or the popular Flöha New Year's Eve runs. Anyone looking forward to the festive highlight of the year can already mark the upcoming events in their calendar, such as the comedy event “Der Tod – Best Of Death Comedy” on September 5th, 2025 and the Firebirds live concert on October 2nd, 2025.
The day in the Cotton Park in particular showed once again that Flöha is not only a cozy place, but also a center for sociability, culture and community. A big thank you goes to the volunteer team who worked not only with routine but also with passion to organize this successful afternoon.
