CDU district party conference: balance sheet, successes and new challenges!
On November 10, 2025, the district party conference of the CDU Euskirchen took place in the Hermann Josef Hall of the Steinfeld Monastery. At this event, attended by 118 members, the different results of the local elections were discussed, which caused both sadness and joy. The Bundestag member Detlef Seif and the state parliament member Klaus Voussem reported on current developments in their parliaments and emphasized the importance of a substantive debate and the government's responsibility.
Seif spoke about the cooperation with the SPD, which he described as an alliance of convenience that reflects the diversity of the political landscape. Voussem also discussed the state government's financial injection: 133 million euros are to flow to the municipalities in the Euskirchen district over the course of twelve years.
Balance sheet and outlook
Ingo Pfennings, who has served as district chairman for two and a half years, drew a mixed conclusion. While there was success in occupying town halls, the result of the district election fell short of expectations: Sabine Preiser-Marian only received 31.9% of the vote, while her competitor Markus Ramers got 68.1%. Jochen Kupp discussed the possibility of a grand coalition because the FDP and the UWV had not achieved the necessary votes.
An agreement was reached that the coalition agreement would be discussed and approved in the district chairman's conference. The district party conference was also the setting for the premiere of the digital election, which enables the CDU in the Euskirchen district to carry out the electoral process more efficiently.
Personnel changes and member development
Ingo Pfennings was re-confirmed as district chairman. The members appointed Klaus Voussem, Ute Stolz and Sabine Preiser-Marian as his deputies. Frank Diefenbach remains treasurer, while Jürgen Görlich acts as member representative and Maren Kurth as digital representative. Katja Ullrich and Phillip Schröder were among those elected as assessors.
What is pleasing is the increasing number of CDU members in the Euskirchen district, which has now grown to 1,750. This represents a positive turnaround following a decline to 1,678 members the previous year. The membership competition brought 65 new members to the Mechernich city association alone, which was rewarded with prize money of 600 euros.
In this election period, 13.7 million eligible voters were called to the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia. Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst of the CDU emphasized that the party had won this election and remained the “number one local party”. Nevertheless, there are also critical voices, including from the SPD and the Greens, who view the election results as worrying and point out the need for improvements.
The coming year will show how the CDU will develop in the Euskirchen district and what political challenges it will face. The internal discussion about coalitions and electoral strategies remains exciting.
