Gelsenkirchen is celebrating: Emotional City Night inspires thousands!
Yesterday, Gelsenkirchen experienced a true feast for the senses on the occasion of the 31st City Night in the Schaffrath district. Thousands of visitors crowded along the race track and the atmosphere was so energetic that at times it was reminiscent of a stadium. Songs like “Oh, how beautiful that is” and “Such a day, as beautiful as today” were heard everywhere, which perfectly captured the emotions and anticipation of those present. The WAZ photographer Frank Oppitz ensured that these unforgettable moments were captured with his photos.
“The weather, the fans, the athletes – everything was simply great,” said race organizer Michael Zurhausen, who was completely satisfied. However, not everything was smooth sailing: there was a small problem before the start when a manhole cover got stuck and the toilet truck could not be connected to the sewage system. But the Gelsendienste employees quickly intervened and fixed the problem.
Racing and emotions
The amateur race, the Gatenbröcker city bakery prize, was another highlight of the day. Martin Brechmann from Siena Garden Racing Masters won the 60 kilometers in an impressive time of 1:14.53 hours. Andreas Jung (Leeze Factory Racing Master) and Julian Rottmann (VfR Büttgen) followed him in second and third place. A fascinating topic of discussion after the race was Rottmann's swerving onto the pavement due to a bump, which was seen as understandable by Simon Walker, who was racing in the elite race.
The city of Gelsenkirchen showed once again how important such events are. According to the principles of urban event management, which governs the planning and execution of public events, the attractive presentation of sporting events is crucial for the local community and attracts visitors. The city events team, which is responsible for approvals, requirements and support for stakeholders, provides further information on this. There is a great focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly concepts in the event organization, which ensures the long-term satisfaction of both participants and local residents.
Traffic management in the area
In order to make the event a success, various traffic measures were necessary. During City Night, several streets, such as Stegemannsweg and Schaffrathstrasse, were closed between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m., which meant that bus lines 342 and 396 had to take diversions. Such measures are essential to ensure the safety of both athletes and spectators.
For the city of Gelsenkirchen, this day was not only a sporting highlight, but also an opportunity to further improve the city's image and promote a strong community. The preparations and organizational measures on which the event was based extend far beyond the race day and underline the importance of professional event management.
It is therefore clear that such events come to life not only through exciting competitions, but also through the people who come together. And so the magic of City Night will remain in the hearts of participants and spectators for a long time.
