Captivating reading and creative adventures: summer reading club in Gütersloh!
There is great anticipation for summer and the associated events in Gütersloh. The popular summer reading club activities started last week, and the city library has a lot to offer. A highlight that many are looking forward to is the reading with the author Maren Graf, which will take place on July 16, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. in the city library. This is all about her exciting book “A Lighthouse Summer Full of Secrets”. But that's not all!
Participating children aged 7 and over are especially invited to enjoy the event. After the reading there will be a creative craft offering that takes up the themes of “lighthouses and summer secrets”. Space is limited, so anyone interested should stop by the children's library quickly to secure a free ticket. Each participant also receives a stamp in the SLC logbook for participation - a small but nice detail that makes reading even more exciting. This event is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia and is part of the 20th anniversary of the Sommerleseclub.
Creative program and film enjoyment
But the reading is just one of many events planned in Gütersloh this summer. Just in time for the Summer Film Days at Bambi Gütersloh, current premieres, documentaries and classics will be shown until August 27, 2025. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary, films such as “The Salt Path” and “Leonora in the Morning Light” are on the program.
Another cultural treat is the exhibition “Panic Rocker meets Kunsthaus Rietberg” with works by Udo Lindenberg, which will be on view from July 10th to October 26th, 2025. The exhibition welcomes numerous visitors and offers a small entrance fee of just 4 euros (reduced 2 euros) - entry is even free for children up to 17 years of age. The exhibition opening times are Tuesday to Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Discoveries and photographic art
The Schnipsel Hunt through Gütersloh, which has been running since July 12, 2025, invites everyone aged 6 and over to explore unknown corners of the city. Participants can collect snippets and solve tasks in nine locations, giving them the chance to win great prizes. And for art lovers, there is the exhibition “Everyday Escapes” with photographic art by Björn Morfar in the city library until August 30, 2025, which focuses on the Lutter local recreation area.
Groups and individuals can register at any time for the summer reading club, which has been an integral part of the city library's summer program since 2005. Team spirit is very important: participants can choose a creative team name and take on exciting tasks while collecting stamps for books and audio books they have read. There will be a celebratory closing party for all participants, and this year too there will be numerous events and creative craft materials available online. The summer reading club team promotes community and reading under the motto “Birthday” for 20 years of the joy of reading - one more reason to properly celebrate the summer months in Gütersloh.
