MT Melsungen celebrates a thrilling friendly win against Hagen with 35:33!

The handball players from MT Melsungen held their own last evening in an exciting training game against VfL Eintracht Hagen. With a 35:33 win, the team achieved an important success, although they had to compete in a challenging situation without several regular players. The top scorer of the game was Vlad Kulesh, who hit the net six times. Coach Roberto Garcia Parrondo was forced to rely on players from the substructure as some professionals were missing due to injuries and participation in the European Championship.

It was a game with ups and downs: the second division team Hagen started well and was already leading 7:12 in the 16th minute. But the Melsungers did not allow themselves to be discouraged and managed to reduce the deficit to two goals by half-time. The second round started brilliantly for the Melsunger team, which took the lead in the 35th minute with 21:19. In the last ten minutes of the game, the Melsungers finally broke away and secured the victory.

Convince young players

The playing time of players from the second team, such as Pawel Krawczyk, Jonas Riecke, Jonathan Atting and Jason Wilfer, as well as Lian Kopeinigg from the A-youth, shows the breadth and potential that the club has. In addition, Marchan, Eickhoff and others contributed to the number of goals, which underlines the good team performance.

Successful group phase in the European League

But the training game wasn't the only reason for MT Melsungen to be happy this week. The team finished the group stage of the European League with an impressive record of six wins from six games. The most recent success came against Benfica Lisbon, where Melsungen won 30:26 and thus secured four points from the direct duels for the main round. Nikolaj Enderleit shone in this encounter and became the most successful thrower of the game with eight goals.

The main round of the European Cup begins in February, and the Melsunger team will face strong opponents such as HC Vardar from Skopje and IFK Kristianstad. So nothing stands in the way of an exciting and challenging month.

Thanks to the fresh talent and positive energy in the team, the Melsungers appear to be ideally positioned to build on their recent successes in the main round of the European League and continue to get off to a strong start in handball with a strong team performance. It will be exciting to see how the team performs in the coming games!
