Burglary in Hamm-Pelkum: Thieves steal cash and jewelry!
On the night of Saturday to Sunday, August 10th, a semi-detached house on Kamener Straße in Hamm-Pelkum was broken into. Unknown perpetrators gained access to the living room through a tilted window around 1:45 a.m. Once inside, they ransacked the rooms and stole cash and jewelry. The Hamm police immediately began an investigation and are asking witnesses to call 02381 916-0 or via email to provide information about the incident. This reports Express.de.
But that wasn't the only break-in in Hamm-Pelkum recently. On Friday, July 18th, there was another incident on “Im Harringholz” street between 3:20 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. One or more perpetrators broke in by prying open the apartment door. Here, too, they left a mess by going through cupboards and drawers and stealing cash and electronics. The police are renewing their appeal to the public to report suspicious observations. This incident was also reported by calf documented.
Burglars in the region: A worrying trend
The frequency of home break-ins in Germany has reached worrying levels in recent years. After the declines during the corona pandemic, when many people stayed at home, the numbers rose again. In 2023, there were around 119,000 thefts in or out of homes, of which around 77,800 were classified as residential burglaries, which include violent entry. This comes from an analysis by Statista out.
Burglaries are particularly common in urban areas. Cities like Mülheim an der Ruhr were in the top group with 283 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while Fürth had the lowest rate with only 33 cases. The clearance rate for such crimes will be 14.9% in 2023, which is rather sobering compared to the overall rate of all crimes of 58.4%. In Bavaria, on the other hand, the clearance rate is 25.8%, while Bremen is at the bottom of the list with 6.5%.
What is also worrying is the high proportion of foreign suspects, which has reached a high of 42.9% in solved burglaries. A rethinking of security perception seems urgently needed. In view of these developments, citizens are called upon to increase their security and immediately report suspicious situations to the police.
