This morning, July 13, 2025, a dramatic incident in the Kaufland parking lot on Lohauserholzstrasse in Hamm caused a stir. A snack trailer caught fire and was surrounded by meter-high flames when the fire department arrived. The emergency services were alerted at 2:57 a.m. and first had to pull up the lowered parking lot barrier to gain access. Firefighting was initiated quickly, but the extinguishing work took longer than expected because glowing remains and hidden sources of fire had to be secured in order to prevent the fire from flaring up again. The fire department arrived again to extinguish the last remnants of the fire and pull apart parts of the food truck.
The police have confiscated the crime scene and are now investigating the unclear cause of the fire, which could be attributed to either a technical defect or arson. This incident is not the first of its kind: a similar event occurred in the Rothenburg neighborhood on July 29, 2021. This involved a gas explosion in a food truck that led to a complete fire. Two employees of the food truck were injured; one of them even suffered life-threatening injuries.
