Wegberg celebrates new artificial turf with a big youth football tournament!
At the weekend, SC Wegberg celebrated a very special highlight in the club's history: the opening of the new artificial turf pitch. The club's largest youth football tournament ran from Corpus Christi to Sunday, with more than 80 teams and around 1,000 players from different age groups fighting for points and trophies. This event is seen not only as a sporting festival, but also as a symbolic step for the future of the club.
The event got off to a spectacular start with a festive inauguration on Thursday and an opening party with a DJ on Friday. The tournament took place in the Hans Gisbertz Stadium in Wegberg and was all about youth football. On the first day the C juniors and on Saturday the D youth competed against each other in exciting matches. The D youth teams played in league mode, which made the competition even more exciting.
Results and highlights
The D-Youth team of TSV Meerbusch prevailed with flying colors and won the tournament with seven out of eight possible victories and 22 points. Particularly notable was their biggest win against ASV Einigkeit Süchteln, where they prevailed 7-0. It was also impressive that both Meerbusch and Rheydter SV only conceded one goal in the entire tournament. The SC Wegberg team also kept a clean sheet with their first representation - a truly strong performance!
The second representative of SC Wegberg, however, had a less fortunate tournament and took second-to-last place with only two points. TuS Reuschenberg finished the tournament in last place, with just one point and a remarkable goal difference of -23.
Plans for the future
The joy of the artificial turf pitch doesn't just stop at this tournament. SC Wegberg is already planning future use of both pitches and is in the process of building another artificial turf pitch. A small soccer field will also be built behind the facility to create even more space for soccer enthusiasts. These measures are intended to further strengthen the club's youth work, which is in line with the club's vision of promoting youth in football.
For anyone who would like to find out more about the youth teams and their activities, there is further information on the SC Wegberg website at sc-wegberg.de.
Overall, the tournament impressively shows how important such events are for the local sports community. As with numerous other sporting events, such as the Schweiger Sports Cup, the community is strengthened here and sporting fairness is very important. Such committed youth tournaments not only promote competition, but also team spirit and the joy of playing, which is particularly valuable at this time. We can only hope that many of these young talents find their way into football and continue to provide exciting games in the future.
