Clooney says Louvre robbery 'terrible' - plans for Ocean's 14!
The robbery of the Louvre on October 19, 2025 continues to make headlines - not least because of George Clooney's amusing comments. The actor, who starred as master thief Danny Ocean in the popular "Ocean's" films, spoke about the brazen act in an interview, describing it as "terrible" but also showing pride in the daring thieves. Clooney, who worked with stars like Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts between 2001 and 2007, laughs at the comparisons between the robbery and his cinematic adventures.
The raid, which lasted just seven minutes, led to a national outcry and a widespread manhunt. How ABC News Reportedly, the four masked perpetrators stole eight pieces of jewelry, including exquisite pieces belonging to Napoleon and his wife, worth approximately $102 million. This brazen act was carried out in front of numerous tourists, which Clooney acknowledged with a smile. “It’s funny in a setting like this to watch people just walk in like that,” he said.
A robbery with great attention to detail
The burglars' actions were meticulously planned. The Louvre thieves arrived at 9:30 a.m. with a truck and an extendable ladder and broke into the Apollo Gallery at 9:34 a.m., setting off the alarm at 9:37 a.m. Within just three minutes, they had the jewelry in their possession and fled on motorcycles, leaving behind a damaged crown, reports said Radio Herford.
Police found tools such as angle cutters and a torch at the scene, indicating thorough planning of the attack. On October 26th, two suspects were finally arrested - one was picked up at Charles de Gaulle Airport, the other was about to travel to Mali.
A colorful look at Ocean’s 14
The events at the Louvre obviously inspired Clooney. In another interview, he suggested that this heist plot could provide a possibility for the plot of “Ocean’s 14,” whose script has already been written and is scheduled to begin production in 2026. Clooney found the thieves' audacity admirable and is looking forward to having some of the original cast members back on board, including Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt. He even joked that he might be edited into the video footage of the attack.
The connection between real and fictional robberies fascinates not only Clooney, but also the public. The arts and culture world is in turmoil, but one thing remains clear: no matter how terrible the robbery, the imagination it inspires is already a chapter in itself.
