Cancellation of Fight Club: Cranger Kirmes loses main attraction!
The Cranger Kirmes, one of the most famous folk festival events in Germany, is facing a new challenge: the “Fight Club” boxing booth will not be represented this year. This was announced by Charly Schultz, the former operator. The reason for the cancellation is a business decision by the new owner of Fight-Club-Merz UG, after he had to cancel last year due to illness Radio Herne reported. Schultz, who worked in the showmanship business for over 30 years, emphasized that this decision was not made lightly.
The cancellation not only affects the popular boxing, but also the “Ring free for…” event, which will not take place this year. Fairgrounds manager Alexander Neumann made it clear that the cancellation of the boxing booth will have no impact on the construction of the Cranger fair, which will open on July 31, 2025. The gap at the original location of the boxing booth is quickly closed; The stand in the row of canals has already been allocated to the “Trip to Hell 2.0” ghost train, while the new “Diabolos Residenz” ghost train will also not be ready on time.
The fight to keep the fair going
The fair has a long tradition in Germany and dates back to the Middle Ages. Originally, visitors were passive spectators of attractions presented by showmen. However, over the centuries, folk festivals have changed and today visitors are an active part of the events. Planet knowledge describes that the first modern roller coasters and carousels appeared in the 19th century and the fair became an important social-cultural element.
Charly Schultz, who was born in Saarbrücken in 1947, comes from a family of showmen. After he had a career as a boxer himself, he took over the “Fight Club” in 1985, which quickly developed into an attraction at the fair. With space for up to 400 spectators, the boxing ring was a popular attraction, especially in the evening hours. Schultz became known for his passionate speeches that drowned out even the noise of the roller coaster.
Future of the fair and the showmen
Fight-Club-Merz UG runs the only traveling boxing booth in Germany, and the cancellation also has an impact on the diversity of the fair's offerings. For Schultz, the boxing booth remains an essential part of his identity; he will remain active as a consultant and boxing promoter. This shows how closely the fates of the showmen are linked to the traditions and culture of the fair.
Despite these setbacks, the Cranger Kirmes is optimistic about the future. With new attractions and a varied program, everything is done to offer visitors an incomparable experience and to keep the tradition of the festival alive.
The Cranger Kirmes will open its gates as usual on July 31, 2025 and invite Cologne residents and visitors from near and far to celebrate together. The events may change, but the enthusiasm for the fair remains unbroken Fair Magazine emphasized.
