New chief physician Mark Obermann takes over management in Höxter!
On July 1, 2025, Dr. Mark Obermann took up his new role as medical director of the Catholic Hospital Association Weser-Egge (KHWE) and thus assumed overall medical responsibility for all four hospital locations in the Höxter district. He succeeds Rolf Haaker, who is retiring after more than two decades. Managing director Christian Jostes expressed his sincere thanks for Haaker's many years of dedicated work, which has brought a lot to the KHWE.
The 49-year-old Mark Obermann is a specialist in neurology and brings significant experience with him. As chief physician of the neurology clinic at the St. Ansgar Hospital in Höxter since 2021, he has successfully expanded stroke care, increased the number of beds and strengthened early neurological rehabilitation. What's more: As a certified stroke unit, the clinic specializes in the treatment of stroke patients and plans to offer comprehensive Parkinson's complex therapy in 2024.
Focus on older patients
Another important focus under Obermann's leadership is the care of older people. Last year he took over management of the new acute geriatrics department at St. Ansgar Hospital. His career in medicine is varied: he was previously a senior physician in Essen and chief physician at the Asklepios Clinics in Seesen, one of the largest centers for neurology in Germany. Here he played a central role in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with neurological diseases.
Obermann not only wants to further develop medical care in the region, but also wants to continue the successful work of his predecessor Rolf Haaker. Jostes emphasizes that Obermann knows the processes within the network and that promoting interdisciplinary collaboration between the different departments in the hospital is important.
Commitment beyond the clinic
In addition to his role as Medical Director, Prof. Obermann was also appointed as the new regional representative of the German Stroke Aid. This volunteer position allows him to provide stroke education and raise awareness of risk factors and symptoms. Under his leadership, self-help groups will also offer more support for those affected and their relatives in order to sustainably improve the care of stroke patients, as Primomedico reports.
In the fast-moving world of health management, it is essential for managers to be very familiar with the complex relationships. Seminars, such as the intensive seminar for hospital management offered by Mibeg-Institut, impart the skills required for the successful management of clinics. The focus is on topics such as strategic planning, personnel management and process optimization.
With Mark Obermann at the helm of the KHWE, the Höxter region can hope for positive developments in medical care, while at the same time providing important impetus for improving stroke care. It will be exciting to see what progress he and his team will make in the coming years.
