New president of the Zonta Club Höxter: Annette Finkeldei takes over!
The Zonta Club Höxter has taken a new course as Annette Finkeldei takes on responsibility as president. She succeeds Leonore von Falkenhausen, who has held the chair for the last two years. Finkeldei was instrumental in founding the club, which has just celebrated its 20th anniversary. Her expertise and commitment promise a lively presidency that will continue to advocate for women's and children's rights. As hoexter-news.de reports, she is supported by a strong management team, which includes Susanne Krekeler as Vice President.
The Zonta Club Höxter is not only a place for exchange, but is also actively involved in the community. Projects such as the bag exchange and the “Young Women in Leadership Award” are among the initiatives that shape the club. Particularly noteworthy is the commitment to the “Orange the World” campaign, which aims to draw attention to violence against women and children. The next bag exchange is already planned for September 26th to 28th, 2025 in the Höxteran Marienkirche, where record proceeds of 18,600 euros were achieved last year. This amount went to organizations such as the Höxter district women's and children's shelter and the AWO women's advice center.
Commitment on multiple levels
The activities of the Zonta Club are not limited to Höxter. The Zonta Club Berlin has also held various events in recent months, from the “FEMMES DE LÉGENDE” benefit concert to informative club evenings. On their website zonta-berlin.de it is clear that such actions are intended to strengthen the community and awareness of women's concerns.
It is particularly important not only to address violence against women, but also to demand concrete steps to improve it. The Union of German Zonta Clubs, which has around 4,000 members in Germany, has clearly spoken out in favor of the full implementation of the Istanbul Convention against violence against women. According to zonta-union.de, the implementation in Germany so far is anything but satisfactory. Those affected and employees of help and advice centers repeatedly report inadequate conditions and a lack of women's shelter places. Katja Kamphans, President of the Union, is pushing for effective measures as many women and children often cannot find safe refuge.
Together against violence
November 25th, the International Day to Combat Violence Against Women, is being used by the Zonta Clubs to draw attention to the urgent problem with various actions. Among other things, a digital discussion group is planned in which experts and those affected will have their say. These events have the motto “ZONTA SAYS NO”, which conveys the clear message that violence against women will not be tolerated in any form.
The constant initiative to improve living conditions and combat violence is a concern that is firmly anchored both in Höxter and in other cities such as Berlin. The new board of the Zonta Club Höxter, with Leonore von Falkenhausen as past president and Heike Jandt as board member, is ready to bring a breath of fresh air into the activities and respond to the needs of the community.
