Unknown people tear down 27 guide posts on the K18: police are looking for witnesses!

On the night of Sunday, June 8th, an incident occurred along the K18 between the Brenkhausen and Höxter-Lütmarsen traffic circles that caused astonishment. A total of 27 guide posts were torn from their anchorage, which brought the Höxter police to the scene. The affected route extends over around 1.3 kilometers and affects the right side of the road in the direction of Lütmarsen. According to Radio Hochstift, the exact time of the crime is between midnight and 6 a.m. in the morning. Fortunately, officers found most of the fallen poles in close proximity to the road and were able to reinstall them, which means the damage is considered minor.

But the incidents don't stop. It was only early on Wednesday morning, March 29th, that two more guide posts on the L 755 near Ovenhausen were pulled out of their anchorage and disposed of in the ditch. Here too, the Höxter police officers were able to rule out a traffic accident. These repeated vandalistic attacks raise questions and the traffic commissioner is investigating dangerous interference with road traffic. Information from witnesses is essential for solving these crimes. Information can be provided by calling 05271/962-0, as reported in the case of the K18 regulation Westfalen Blatt.

Vandalism and traffic safety in focus

The repeated acts show that the issue of road safety and the protection of infrastructure is more urgent than ever. In 2023, 2,839 people died in road traffic accidents in Germany, representing an increase of 1.8 percent compared to the previous year. While road traffic has changed in recent years and many safety measures are being taken, maintaining traffic order remains a challenge. The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure has set itself the “Vision Zero” goal of not allowing any deaths in road traffic. BMV is therefore working on new regulations and safety measures that are intended to make traffic safer and fairer.

The current actions not only highlight the need to pay more attention to our roads and associated transport facilities, but they also call for us to stand together as a community and pay attention. Only together can we ensure that our roads and paths can be used safely.

If you suspect vandalism or have further information, citizens should contact the police immediately. Together for a safe transport infrastructure!
