Traffic police and police: Together for more safety in the Kleve district!

On August 8, 2025, at a meeting in Bedburg-Hau, the representatives of the Kleve District Traffic Watch Association and the Kleve District Police Authority came together to give new impetus to their joint mission to improve road safety. Among those present were Peter Baumgarten, the first chairman of the traffic police, and police chief Achim Jaspers, who heads the traffic department.

“Road safety is not just an issue for the police,” said Jaspers. “We are all called upon to take action here.” The aim of the collaboration is to drastically reduce the number of traffic accidents, particularly those involving serious injuries and deaths, in the Kleve district. As current figures show, there were 2,770 traffic deaths in Germany in 2024, which represents a slight decrease compared to previous years. Nevertheless, the numbers of seriously and slightly injured people remain alarming, which signals a clear need for action. Road safety also remains a central issue on the federal government's agenda, which is pursuing the concept of "Vision Zero" - the goal of having no deaths on the roads shared the same Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure with.

Joint actions and target groups

In order to raise awareness of road safety, the traffic police and the police carry out regular campaigns. Prevention stands throughout the district are intended to provide an important platform to inform the population. The focus is particularly on “vulnerable road users” such as children and seniors. Because these groups are often particularly at risk. The traffic police are actively involved, for example by distributing school entry booklets to preschool children, offering cycling training in primary schools and organizing free Pedelec training for seniors.

These measures are part of a comprehensive road safety program. Despite the decline in traffic fatalities, the need to raise awareness of the dangers of road traffic remains. Statistical surveys impressively show the accident events and underline the urgency of increased investigation.

A look into the future

The planned activities for the current year were also discussed at the meeting. Those responsible for traffic control and the police have agreed to continue their joint work on traffic safety. This close cooperation is not only important for both sides, but is essential in order to achieve the set goals and promote awareness of a safe traffic culture.

In view of all these efforts, one could say: Something is happening, in the exciting and important world of road safety! It takes a good hand and close cooperation to make the streets safer. Together we can ensure that the number of traffic accidents continues to fall and everyone can be safe on the roads.
