The city of Cologne has decided to give 1. FC Köln a special gift. The new third jersey, which was recently presented, honors not only the club, but also the impressive Cologne Cathedral. On the occasion of the club's 77th anniversary and the 777th anniversary of the laying of the cathedral's foundation stone, the jersey shines in an elegant black and shows elaborately designed elements that are inspired by the cathedral's Gothic architecture. Column structures, Gothic windows and even the “Ceiling Pitter” (St. Peter's Bell) are visibly immortalized on the jersey. This was reported by Bild.
Philipp Liesenfeld, managing director of the FC, emphasizes the close connection between the cathedral and the people of Cologne. “The cathedral is part of us,” says Liesenfeld. He thinks that the commonality of patience, endurance and cohesion characterizes both the cathedral and the FC. Cathedral builder Peter Füssenich summarizes this aptly by viewing the two institutions as symbols for the city. The jersey is now available in the fan shop and online – for 99.95 euros for adults and cheaper for FC members and children.
A jersey for the history books
The shorts for the jersey are equally elegant in black, complemented by gold logos, while the socks also shine in black. A golden thread adorns the FC logo and the elaborately designed lettering on the neckband: “August 15, 1248 – 777 years – August 15, 2025.” This highly detailed jersey is expected to become a collector's item, even if FC is not expected to wear it frequently.
Cologne itself has a rich history and is the largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia. Over 1.1 million people live here and enjoy a diverse culture, which is characterized, among other things, by the numerous museums and gallant events such as the famous carnival. Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was the tallest building in the world from 1880 to 1890 and remains a striking landmark in the city today. This is what Wikipedia writes about the cultural treasures and importance of the city.
Cologne's economic importance and infrastructure

.
