First British Day in Uerdingen: bagpipes and singing inspire!

The first British Day opened its doors today on the market square in Uerdingen and the atmosphere is characterized by unusual musical tones and the sounds of seven bagpipes. The Amazing Piperazzi perform as a central highlight on a red traveling stage in the city of Krefeld. Initiated by the Uerdinger Highlanders, who have been active for two years, this event offers an exciting change and is the result of intensive preparations, as RP Online reports.

The Uerdinger Highlanders have already organized three events in the past, including the popular Highland Games and the Maypole throwing. But today's British Day stands out because of its special focus on the twin city relationship with Leicester. Frank Langen, the chairman of the Uerdinger Highlander, emphasizes the excellent cooperation with the city of Krefeld, which is financially supported by the Uerdingen disposal fund. This shows how collaborative projects can also be fruitful in the region.

Program highlights and special guests

British Day has a diverse program to offer, starting at 11:00 a.m. with the Amazing Pipers. The rest of the program includes, among other things, a performance by the Chamber Choir of the University of Leicester, which will be in the city from July 19th to July 23rd. The official opening by Mayor Frank Meyer is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., followed by various interviews and other musical performances, as Krefeld.de reports in summary.

  • 11:00 Uhr: Auftakt mit den Amazing Pipers
  • 11:15 Uhr: Auftritt des Kammerchors
  • 12:00 Uhr: Offizielle Eröffnung durch Oberbürgermeister Frank Meyer
  • 16:30 Uhr: Amazing Pipers
  • 17:00 Uhr: Verabschiedung und Ausklang

A free concert by the chamber choir took place in St. Peter's Church on July 19th, and another concert is planned for July 22nd in the Stadtwaldhaus. These musical contributions enrich British Day and promote intercultural exchange between Krefeld and Leicester.

Team and organization

The Uerdinger Highlanders were able to realize this event thanks to urban development funding.
