Reconstruction of the KGS In der Wasserkuhl: The future of schools is taking shape!
There is a lot of work being done on the future of education in Leverkusen! Several construction projects at primary schools are underway to meet the growing needs of students. What particularly catches the eye is the KGS In der Wasserkuhl, whose renovation has become more concrete and which is being redesigned with an investment volume of around 27 million euros reports the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.
The existing infrastructure is getting old and the high need for modern educational spaces is undeniable. The plans include, among other things, expanding the Steinbüchel primary school from two to three classes. Sustainability plays a big role here. Those responsible want to create sustainable learning spaces with photovoltaic systems, geothermal energy and modern ventilation systems.
Tree felling and new planting
However, before construction work can really begin, some preparatory measures must be taken. The planning showed that five trees were originally supposed to be felled, but the number has now been increased to eleven. In return, 43 new plantings are planned to maintain and expand the green spaces. Tree removal will begin on Monday, October 20th and is expected to be completed by Friday, October 24th. This will be followed by civil engineering work, which will begin in November, during the autumn holidays.
The city administration is well on schedule for the school project and hopes to complete construction work by the end of 2028. There has already been approval for the preliminary design planning by the building management department for the expansion to 3-speed at the KGS In der Wasserkuhl. In total, total expenditure of around 23.5 million euros is calculated, with a risk premium of 20% also being planned informs the city of Leverkusen.
The investment backlog in the education sector
But there is a need for action not only in Leverkusen. Loud Architecture sheet The investment backlog in school infrastructure in Germany has risen to record levels. In 2024 we will have a total of 54.8 billion euros - an increase that can be attributed to rising construction prices. This shows how urgently modern solutions are needed for schools. Solutions such as modular educational buildings could significantly shorten the construction time for new projects and take communication in the educational sector to a new level.
The challenges are diverse: increasing student numbers and ever new demands on the infrastructure make it all the more important to act quickly and sustainably. In this sense, the renovation of the KGS In der Wasserkuhl in Leverkusen is of great importance not only for the local students, but could also be an example for other cities that are looking for innovative ways to develop schools.
