The future of the Hermannsdenkmal: An experience for the whole family!
The Hermann Monument in Lippe will become the center of an exciting tourist project that is intended to sustainably enhance the region. LZ reports that the Lippe regional association has presented a concept for improving the site. The focus is on building a new world of experience that uses all sorts of technological bells and whistles and innovative elements to bring historical stories to life.
Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst has already opened the “Experience World at the Hermannsdenkmal” on November 18, 2024. “There's something going on,” he will have said while the final finishing touches to the interior are still in full swing. From August 31, 2024, visitors can explore the “Hermanneum” as part of a “soft opening”. With a total of 3.2 million euros invested, this part of the project is an exciting addition to the monument visit.
Investment and sustainable development
A huge part of the financing comes from public funds, including around 2.6 million euros from the funding pot of the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry for Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy. This corresponds to 80% of the total costs for the adventure world. This makes the project not only financially viable, but also future-proof. The regional association's own contribution amounts to 600,000 euros.
The adventure park itself plans to optimize the routing, which costs around 2.64 million euros. Of this, 2.11 million euros are funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The area around the monument will also be redesigned, including the parking lot and a circular hiking trail. A total of 3.3 million euros in federal funds will flow into the renovation. “We have a good knack for what the region needs,” said Jörg Düning-Gast, who is pleased about the state government’s support.
Technological innovations and target groups
An absolute highlight will be the digitally prepared exhibition, which offers virtual and augmented reality elements as well as a 360-degree cinema. This means that the adventure world appeals not only to adults, but also to children and young people. School classes are also welcomed with tailor-made programs. As NRW Economics Minister Mona Neubaur emphasizes, modern tourism offers are now more than just information boards and brochures.
The hype surrounding the Hermannsdenkmal cannot be overlooked: the monument attracts around 500,000 visitors every year. The new offerings are intended to continue this trend and make the region an even more attractive destination for tourists. “We want Hermann to connect,” it concludes. And that's exactly what the new concept seems to have achieved. The future looks bright!
