Corona reports for Mettmann: Zero new infections on December 28th!
What's new in the Corona situation? The situation remains stable in North Rhine-Westphalia. Today, December 28, 2025, *no new infections* were reported in the Mettmann district compared to the previous day. A total of 14 registered cases have been recorded over the last seven days, which corresponds to a 7-day incidence of 2.9 per 100,000 inhabitants. The total number of people who have tested positive in the Mettmann district since the beginning of the pandemic is 238,258. As a comparison, *news.de* reports that no new infections were reported in the entire state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and the nationwide 7-day incidence is 2.0 per 100,000 inhabitants.
However, there is also sad news: Last week, North Rhine-Westphalia recorded a total of 10 new deaths, bringing the total number of COVID-19-related deaths in Germany to 188,756. The total number of corona cases nationwide is now 39,169,068, as *corona-in-zahlen.de* has found out. That makes an infection rate of an impressive 47.1%.
Age groups and their infections
The 35 to 59 age group bears the greatest burden in North Rhine-Westphalia with 3,152,430 cases. The distribution of infections is as follows:
- 0-04 Jahre: 220.173 Fälle (25,05 %)
- 05-14 Jahre: 905.534 Fälle (52,39 %)
- 15-34 Jahre: 2.433.480 Fälle (57,69 %)
- 35-59 Jahre: 3.152.430 Fälle (51,85 %)
- 60-79 Jahre: 1.120.547 Fälle (28,33 %)
- 80+ Jahre: 388.207 Fälle (30,37 %)
These numbers show that younger adults in particular are affected, while older adults are also heavily impacted by the pandemic.
Current vaccination statistics
There is an encouraging development when it comes to vaccinations. According to the *Robert Koch Institute* survey, a total of 76.3% of the population in Germany had received basic immunization by April 8, 2023. That amounts to over 63 million people. The number of people who have received at least one vaccination is also 77.9% (over 64 million). It is also exciting that 62.8% of the population have already received a booster vaccination, which shows that willingness to vaccinate remains encouragingly high.
However, there is also a challenge: When looking at the vaccination rates across the different age groups, different values were determined in July 2023. A look at the numbers reveals that educational work is still needed to increase vaccination rates, especially among younger people.
In the meantime, the situation remains tense. Despite the stable infection numbers and the ongoing vaccination campaign, caution is advised. The current *hospitalization rate* is 1.19 and there are currently 1,002 patients in hospital for COVID-19, highlighting the importance of facilities and protecting vulnerable groups. The number of intensive care patients with COVID-19 is also 87 (as of July 12, 2023), which only accounts for 0.4% of the available intensive care beds, but shows that medical facilities still need to be on guard.
Overall, the Corona situation is currently largely stable compared to the stressful times at the beginning of the pandemic. Nevertheless, we should not let up and continue to take vaccination and general hygiene measures seriously. Stay healthy!
