Fireworks explosion damages speed cameras: perpetrators on the run!

On the night of September 5, 2025, two young men in Langenfeld set out on an adventurous but dangerous mission. For reasons that are unclear, they damaged a mobile speed camera with a firecracker. As the Borkener Zeitung reports, residents were startled by a loud bang at around 3:10 a.m. When the police were alerted, the suspected perpetrators were already on the run.

Witnesses saw the men fleeing on foot after the detonation and then disappearing in a red small car. When the emergency services arrived at the scene a short time later, they found the speed camera system at number 112 badly damaged. The damage is estimated at around 20,000 euros, as Bild emphasizes.

Initial investigations and arrests

The Mettmann police immediately started a search and were able to quickly spot the red car. This was a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old German-Kazakh driver, while a 24-year-old passenger sat at his side. Both men are from Langenfeld and are already known to the police. It's not the first time the older man has come into conflict with the law, as he's already been noticed for causing an explosive explosion.

Although the police searched the apartments of the two suspects, the search for further evidence had no direct consequences. Interestingly, both suspects were later released. Nothing is known yet about the exact background to the crime, but the police have started investigations and forensics in order to shed light on the matter.

Call for witnesses

The investigators are now turning to the public and looking for other witnesses who observed the crime or who can provide information. Anyone who has seen anything should urgently contact the Langenfeld police on 02173 288-6310. Any clue could help shed light on this unpleasant occurrence.

However, the question remains: What motivated the two men to commit such a risky act? Are they looking for excitement or is there more to it? The police will work hard to clarify the incident.
