Mettmann's new mayor André Bär presents himself to the citizens!

On November 4th, 2025 the time had finally come: Mayor André Bär officially took up his duties in Mettmann. After an eventful first day at work the day before, he introduced himself to the city administration employees today full of energy. With fresh ideas and an open ear for citizens, Bär wants to direct the city's fortunes and lead it into a digital future. The new mayor emphasizes how important exchange with the population is, because “one ear is always with the citizens”.

With the current challenge of digitalization, Bär has a big topic on the table. Similar to many other cities, digital administration is increasingly becoming a central concern in Mettmann. A good example of the associated legal framework is the Bavarian Digital Act (BayDiG), which came into force in June 2022. This law sets the goals for citizen-friendly digitalization and offers a clear framework for the expansion of digital services in administration. Among other things, it promotes digital sovereignty while taking data protection and data security into account, which is also of great importance for Mettmann.

Focus on digital transformation

In his speech today, Bär emphasized the need to create modern jobs in administration. These should be based on solutions such as Microsoft 365, which has already been successfully implemented in cities like Rosenheim. For example, citizen-friendly, media-free administrative processes are being established there and digital education is being promoted in schools.

A groundbreaking concept, like the one that already works in Rosenheim, could also be a role model for Mettmann. The introduction of IoT sensors for sustainable urban development and intelligent traffic control are just some of the projects that show how digitalization can be advanced and at the same time increase the quality of life of citizens.

Opportunities and challenges

Of course, there are also challenges when implementing digital transformation. The integration of new technologies, the protection of sensitive data and the development of digital skills are aspects that should not be underestimated. However, Mayor Bär is optimistic and sees these challenges as an opportunity to make the city of Mettmann an attractive location for citizens and companies.

With the support of solutions such as the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, which is a valuable resource for many institutions, new paths can also be taken in public administration in Mettmann. Citizen service will be significantly improved, especially by anchoring digital rights and claims to services in exchange with authorities.

André Bär has big plans and wants to make Mettmann an example of successful digital transformation. Citizens can be excited to see what impulses and changes will await them in the coming months.
