Election helper wanted! Mettmann and Erkrath are preparing!
In the city of Mettmann it will soon be: “Go vote and help!” We are looking for hard-working election workers for the upcoming local elections on September 14, 2025. Citizens who would like to get involved at the polling station or in the counting of postal votes are warmly invited to get in touch. The city of Mettmann would like to ensure broad participation with a call on radioneandertal.de.
But something is not only happening in Mettmann. Election workers are also in demand in Erkrath, where elections will also take place on September 14, 2025. A similar picture becomes clear here: The city is looking for people who would like to help in one of the 20 polling stations or with the counting of votes in the Alt-Erkrath town hall. And helping hands are also welcome for the possible runoff election on September 28, 2025, if that happens. Anyone interested can find further information and contact options on the [Erkrath city administration] website (https://www.erkrath.de/rathaus-politik/pressemitigungen/kommunalwahl-wahlhelferinnen-und-wahlhelfer-gesucht).
Who can apply?
The requirements for anyone who would like to work as a poll worker are quite manageable. The minimum age is 16 on election day, and a German passport or citizenship of another EU country is required. It is important that the applicants are entitled to vote and have not been excluded from the right to vote by a court order. A residence in Mettmann or Erkrath is not mandatory.
The compensation for the assignment varies: In Mettmann you receive between 50 and 70 euros depending on the task, while in Erkrath you can get between 50 and 80 euros for similar activities. Commitment to a democracy is therefore also financially rewarded.
Duties of election workers
But what exactly will the election workers have to do? According to the information from the Federal Returning Officer, the area of responsibility includes the proper conduct of the election. This includes ensuring peace and order at the polling station, checking voter lists and voting slips, and issuing ballot papers. Even if assistance for voters with disabilities is necessary, it is also part of the duties of poll workers. After the polling stations close at 6:00 p.m., the counting of votes begins, which can take hours.
Preparations begin before the polls open at 8:00 a.m. To ensure a smooth voting system, the helpers should have a good hand and an eye for details. So anyone who would like to get involved should contact the relevant authorities soon - be it the email addresses wahlhelfer@mettmann.de for Mettmann or wahlen@erkrath.de for Erkrath.
So it can be said: In the local elections in September, people don't just vote, they also get involved! The cities of Mettmann and Erkrath are looking forward to numerous helpers who will help ensure that everything runs smoothly. So if you have the time and the desire, you should get going quickly - democracy is happy about every active supporter!
