Garden hut in Mönchengladbach burned down completely – resident injured!

On the night of October 19, 2025, the Mönchengladbach fire department was called to a fire that was raging in a garden shed on Leifhelmstrasse in the Hardterbroich Pesch district. As early as 1:54 a.m., residents noticed an unclear fire and immediately alerted the fire department Radio 901 reports.

The arrival of the emergency services was unpleasant because it quickly became clear that a garden shed measuring around 6 x 6 meters was already burning to its full extent. When they arrived, the firefighters also discovered that the fire had already spread to adjacent garden sheds and trees, which made the situation even more dangerous. But the fire department didn't take long to ask. In a courageous operation, several teams wearing respiratory protection quickly controlled and extinguished the inferno to prevent it from spreading further.

Efficient firefighting

A total of 14 emergency services went into action, including the fire engine from Fire and Rescue Station I and other vehicles, to quickly defuse the dangerous situation. Using two C-pipes and a foam pipe, the emergency services managed to fight the fire quickly and prevent it from flaring up again. This underlines how important it is to act quickly in such situations, as a stored propane gas bottle also had to be recovered in a timely manner. This was the only way to prevent more serious damage feuerwehr.de reports.

Unfortunately, during the operation, an elderly resident suffered from circulatory shock, requiring emergency responders to provide emergency care and transport her to a nearby hospital. Her health situation was obviously linked to the horror of the fire and illustrates how threatening such firefighting operations can be for the residents.

Investigation into the cause of the fire

After successfully fighting the fire, the question now remains as to the cause of the fire. The police have already launched an investigation to clarify the origin of the fire. The damage to the completely destroyed garden shed is significant, and the neighboring properties also suffered. The head of operations, Chief Fire Inspector Roman Crützen, was satisfied with how the operation went, but noted that the fire department's quick action was crucial to avert further damage.
