Neuhaus scandal: Gladbach star has to pay for U23!

It starts on Sunday: Borussia Mönchengladbach starts summer preparation for the 2025/26 Bundesliga season at 12 p.m. Coach Gerardo Seoane and his protégés are full of anticipation, while the fans can join in the excitement on training pitch 1 with free entry. For everyone who cannot be there live, the training session will also be broadcast via the club's own “FohlenTV”. On this special day, spectators will even have the opportunity to grab selfies and autographs from the players and coaching staff, and a food truck will provide food and drinks for everyone.

Unfortunately, Florian Neuhaus, the 28-year-old midfielder, will not be able to take part in training. After a controversial video from Mallorca in which he made statements deemed "unacceptable", Borussia have fined him and banned him from the first team for the next four weeks. Instead, Neuhaus has to train with the club's U23 team. Gladbach's CEO Dr. Stefan Stegemann commented unequivocally on Neuhaus' behavior and emphasized that the statements had damaged the club.

The start of training for the professionals and the returnees

With the exception of the U21 national players Rocco Reitz (23) and Lukas Ullrich (21) as well as the Swiss national player Nico Elvedi (28), all of the able-bodied professionals took part in the first session. The two youngsters are currently shining on the international stage, while Tim Kleindienst (29) and Nathan Ngoumou (25) are still in rehab training. Gladbach is relying on fresh reinforcements for the coming weeks. Jens Castrop (22) comes from 1. FC Nürnberg and Kevin Diks (28) moves from FC Copenhagen to Mönchengladbach. However, Diks' fitness to play is still questionable due to a muscle injury he sustained in an international match.

There is another pleasing update from Grant-Leon Ranos (21) and Oscar Fraulo (21). Both are returning from their loan spells. While Ranos should start with full vigor, Fraulo could receive special leave after the U21 European Championships. This shows once again how important preparation is for the club and the entire team.

A look at the training philosophy

Modern approaches are also taken into account when designing the training. Coaches and experts from the DFB competence team emphasize the importance of playing styles in training. The focus is on small groups with long net playing times in order to promote young talents in the best possible way. According to the training philosophy, every youth team should train at least twice a week following the example of the best training sessions. This method of small game formats is not only intensive but also crucial for the development of players up to U16 level, who should spend at least 48 minutes per week in such formats. From the U17 onwards, the target is still a good 32 minutes.

With this news in mind, we can't wait to see how the team performs as they prepare for the new season - and whether Florian Neuhaus will perhaps join the professionals again soon. One thing is certain: With so much potential and passion that will be shown at the start, the anticipation for the upcoming games is huge!

More details about Florian Neuhaus' situation can be found at Bundesliga.com and further information about the training philosophy can be found at DFB.de.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how the new additions will integrate into the team. The hunt for success awaits both the newcomers and the old hands in Mönchengladbach!
