Odenkirchen: Avision Cup inspires young tennis talents!

From June 8th to 10th, 2023, the Odenkirchen Tennis Club experienced a true sports festival when the 35th youth tournament for the Vision Cup was carried out. In classes U9 to U16, girls and boys had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills on the newly constructed tennis courts. What was particularly pleasing was that the sky also cooperated because, despite the rain, no games had to be moved indoors.

The main sponsor of the tournament was Avision Europe GmbH, known for their document scanners and multifunction devices. William Kuo, the company's general manager, was impressed by the sporting fairness of the participants and praised the high quality of the games during the award ceremony.

The winners at a glance

In the girls U14 class, Lisa Bischoff from Netzballverein e. V. 1898 first place. Yike Ma (TuS Treudeutsch 07 Lank e.V.) came in second, followed by Marlies Terhürne (TG Nord Düsseldorf e.V.) and Anna Gorel (TC Nittel). In the boys' category, Louis Elias Klein (TC Blau-Weiss Lechenich) came out on top, while his club colleague Leandro Eloi took second place. Noah Sebastian Hoppe from SV Bayer Wuppertal e.V. and Ferdinand Kamp (Gladbacher HTC e.V.) completed the podium.

The importance of the tournament

Dr. Axel Niemöller, 2nd chairman of TC Odenkirchen, emphasized the importance of sponsorship for the future of the tournament. With a total of 162 entries, participants from a wide variety of associations, such as the Lower Rhine Tennis Association and the Westphalia Association, were welcomed. The tournament enjoys ranking status and allows players to collect points for the German youth rankings.

The event was not only a milestone in the promotion of youth sports, but is also in the context of a comprehensive strategy. As the WTB youngest conception shows, the focus is on continuous development in tennis for children. The aim is to offer optimal training and adapted tournament formats. The introduction of the NEXT LEVEL tournament series is intended to promote not only sporting ambition, but also the fun of the game.

Here in Odenkirchen, these principles were put into practice, and the numerous participants showed once again that tennis in this country has great potential for the future. We look forward to the upcoming tournaments and the talented players who make this possible!
