Three seriously injured after rear-end collision on B 56 near Siegburg!
In the evening hours of Monday, July 14th, there was a serious traffic accident on federal highway 56 near Siegburg-Stallberg, which seriously injured three people. At around 7:50 p.m., a 43-year-old man was driving his VW Touran when acute nausea forced his 23-year-old passenger to pull over on the shoulder. While they were waiting for help, a 27-year-old driver crashed her Opel Corsa into the stationary vehicle without braking, as Tixio reports.
The impact was so severe that all three occupants were seriously injured and had to be taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Fortunately, despite the dramatic situation, there is no life-threatening situation for those affected. More detailed information about the processes and the injured people is available in a report by Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.
Course of the accident and measures
The incident caused a stir in the region. According to investigators' initial findings, the person who caused the accident stated that she had a medical problem that she no longer remembered. However, she could not elaborate on this on the spot. As a result, her driver's license was confiscated by the police. Immediately after the impact, the highway maintenance department and the police had to completely close the federal highway to investigate the accident. The B56 was only reopened around 10:20 p.m.
The material damage is estimated at a total of 20,000 euros. In addition, both vehicles were no longer drivable after the accident and had to be towed away. Regulations and statistics on road traffic accidents in Europe show that such incidents are unfortunately becoming increasingly common. According to the European Parliament, thousands of people lose lives or suffer serious injuries in traffic accidents every year.
Although the number of road deaths in the EU has fallen by 36 percent over the last ten years, traffic remains a major source of danger. The case at Siegburg-Stallberg makes this clear once again: In this accident, too, bad consequences could have been prevented if the circumstances had been different.
