Moussa Sylla: Schalke star leaves dog Ghosty in the animal shelter!

In a remarkable incident, Schalke 04 striker Moussa Sylla has become the target of criticism for his perceived lack of interest in his dog Ghosty. The three-year-old dog, which has been staying with a dog sitter in Mülheim since June 2023, was brought to the Essen animal shelter at the beginning of August 2023 after the Sylla family ignored all messages from the dog sitter for several weeks. An employee of the association let it be known via voice message that Sylla “no longer had any use” for Ghosty, which the chairwoman of the Essen animal protection association described as “irresponsible”.

Sylla, who moved from FC Pau to Schalke 04 for 2.5 million euros in 2023, not only brought his wife but also Ghosty with him to Germany. Now he is accused of neglecting responsibility for the dog. It turns out that Ghosty could potentially be a list dog, which makes rehoming much more difficult. In Germany, keeping such dogs requires special requirements and proof of expertise, which, according to the Düsseldorf public order office, is not available for Sylla. This results in proceedings under the Dog Movement and Import Restriction Act.

Uncertainty about vaccinations and legal consequences

Another problem is Ghosty's lack of vaccination. Among other things, the dog is not vaccinated against rabies, which also raises the question of the adoption license. Sylla and Ghosty's situation sheds light on the challenges associated with owning dogs in Germany, especially for athletes and celebrities who juggle hectic schedules.

A look at private life

Aside from the sporting and animal challenges, there is also news from the world of celebrities. Greg Gutfeld, a well-known American presenter, and his wife Elena Moussa recently gave birth to their first daughter Mira. The first photos of the little girl were published on Elena's Instagram story on Valentine's Day 2025. Before that, they kept details about their child largely private.

The posts included a beautifully decorated bookcase and a piece of art, while Elena posed in a red knitted sweater with the family dog Gus, while Mira, dressed in a gray knitted suit, only showed the lower part of her face. Greg has yet to share any pictures of Mira on social media and said he remained unwell over the holidays before returning to work soon after.

The stories about Sylla and Gutfeld show that life in public is always confronted with unexpected challenges, whether it concerns animal responsibility or the private life of a new family.
