Discover the treasures of Münster: great children's activities in the city museum!

The Münster City Museum invites all children aged six to ten to an exciting experience on Tuesday, August 12th at 3 p.m. As part of a special event, the legendary Shop Henke, a historic grocery store from 1911, brought to life. Here, the little guests can not only marvel at the old sausage cutting machine and the scales, but also create their own shopping bags with a craft activity.

The idea behind this event is to allow children to travel back in time through the history of shopping in Münster. “With the originals from the Henke store, history becomes tangible and tangible,” says a spokesman for the museum. The meeting point is in the museum foyer and participation costs five euros per child.

The adventure of treasure hunting

But that's not all! On Thursday, August 14th, there will be an exciting treasure hunt at 3 p.m. during which children can go on a journey of discovery in the secret rooms of the city museum. Here too, entry is five euros per child, and the little ones can look forward to a scavenger hunt for the “hidden treasure”.

The summer holiday events are aimed at fun and education because, as the organizers emphasize, the children should come into contact with art and history in a playful way. Knowledge of local history is also promoted - all in an interactive environment!

Public tours and exhibitions

For older guests or parents, there will be a public tour through the history of Münster on Saturday, August 16th, starting at 4 p.m. Here, over 1,200 years of history comes to life in a tour from the early medieval settlement of “Mimigernaford” to the modern city. The price for participation is five euros, reduced to three euros, also in the museum foyer.

From Friday, August 15th, the “Kripo intern” exhibition will also open in the city history showcase. This focuses on the work of the Münster Criminal Investigation Department and shows impressive techniques such as the “shot channel”, which is used to secure fired projectiles without causing damage.

A look into the city museum

The Münster City Museum, housed in a historic department store building with a preserved facade from 1910/1911, not only offers these exciting events, but also a chronological overview of the city's history. The development of Münster from the former Hanseatic city and crafts town to the modern metropolis of the 20th century is discussed in 33 cabinets. There are also special spatial settings here, such as the famous Cafe Müller from the 1950s and the Henke colonial goods store, which underline the historical charm of the city.
