S.C. second team Rot-Weiß Oberhausen shines in Hückeswagen!

The sporting events in Cologne enjoy a lot of interest, especially when local teams give their best in competitions. So the second men's team from S.C. Rot-Weiß Oberhausen recently attracted attention at the duathlon in Hückeswagen. This race, which was characterized by a demanding route in the Bergisch region, was intended for the team to gain valuable experience in the top league. The RWO athletes, consisting of Benedikt Wulf, Kristofer Jonnek, Sven Dannenberg and Markus Althoff, faced the challenge with great ambition.

The duathlon, which consisted of a 2.6 kilometer run, followed by 20 km of cycling and finally 5 km of running, made for a strenuous event. RWO 1904 reports that although the competition was high, the team showed a strong performance and successfully collected points for the upper league.

The results in detail

The athletes' individual performances were a reflection of the team spirit and the training effort. Benedikt Wulf achieved 44th place with a time of 1:07:47 hours. Kristofer Jonnek followed in 54th place with 1:10:31 hours. Sven Dannenberg, who started the race as a substitute starter, took 65th place in 1:16:43 hours, while Markus Althoff achieved 68th place with a time of 1:22:09 hours. Each of these results contributed to the valuable experience the athletes gained as part of the Oberliga.

As already mentioned, the next and final race of the season will take place in Xanten in two weeks. It will be exciting to see how the team performs there and what progress they can make from these experiences.

Duathlon in general

Duathlon, often referred to as a “dying sport” among multi-sport athletes, is nevertheless very popular. HDSports informs that over 50 Bike & Run events are held in Germany every year. These competitions combine cycling with various running distances and are aimed at athletes of various levels. The short distance in particular, with lengths of between 5 and 10 km running and 30 to 40 km cycling, has become established and attracts participants from all over the country.

In the winter season, cross duathlons dominate, while in the summer the focus is on classic competitions with racing bikes. The duathlon offers a varied format and is therefore an exciting sport for ambitious athletes.

The commitment and achievements of our local athletes are of great importance not only to themselves, but to the entire sports community. It remains to be seen what further successes S.C. will have. Rot-Weiß Oberhausen can achieve this season!
