Musical celebration for World Children's Day: Hanni in search of sound!
Today, September 20, 2025, we are not only celebrating World Children's Day, but also the eagerly awaited performance of the musical “Hanni is looking for an instrument” in the auditorium of the high school in Korschenbroich. This event promises to be a festive highlight in the spirit of children's rights, as World Children's Day has been celebrated in Germany since 2002 and has the aim of strengthening the rights of children worldwide and promoting friendship among them.
Under the patronage of Jessica Meffert, head of the singing department, the students aged 9 to 16 work closely together to create a musical that reflects their own ideas and visions. The story revolves around little Hanni, who visits a music school for the first time to find the right instrument for her. With a duration of 40 minutes, the performance is sure to captivate both young and old viewers.
Strongly involved: children and young people in production
The participants’ enthusiasm for the project is palpable. Not only did they develop the story themselves, but they also wrote their own roles and designed the costumes. What is particularly remarkable is that the text of Martina Walbeck's musical was created in just two weeks from the students' creative impulses. The musical background comes from Felix Volkmann, a former teacher at the music school, and a teacher-student band will accompany the performance live.
The precious costumes were made by dedicated parents of the project, which shows how strong the community is behind this project. In the front rows sit the JeKits children from the Andreasschule, Gutenbergschule and GGS Liedberg, who will perform the song “Hanni goes from door to door” several times in the musical. Your participation will give the piece a very special touch and underline the connection to the educational objective.
World Children's Day: A celebration of children's rights
As [pro-kita.com](https://www.pro-kita.com/paedagogik/krippe/respekt-fuer-kinder- Feiern-sie-den-weltkindertag-als-froehliches-fest-der-kinderrechte/) reports, World Children's Day is not only an occasion to celebrate, but also an opportunity to draw attention to the rights of children. Many adults and children are often unaware of children's rights, even though they were set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989 and ratified by Germany in 1992. Boys and girls have the right to equality, education, health and a life free from violence - these are just some of the ten basic children's rights.
These important topics will also be addressed at the event in Korschenbroich. Children have the opportunity to raise their voices and formulate demands to improve their living conditions. Creative activities such as painting their dreams in a “room of silence and dreams” or environmentally conscious projects in which balls are made from garbage are also part of the festival.
Participation in the performance of the musical “Hanni is looking for an instrument” is free and is certainly an excellent opportunity for the whole family to not only experience an entertaining piece, but also to learn about the fundamental rights of children. The preparations for this special event have shown how much potential there is in creative collaboration between children and young people.
As citizens of Cologne, we are called upon to celebrate this day with our children and to spread the messages of World Children's Day. Let's work together to encourage children's courage and creativity and stand up for their rights!
