Tool theft in Meerbusch: Suspects flee in the dark!
On the night of Tuesday, June 17, 2025, an attentive witness in Meerbusch observed criminal activity that could make headlines. At around 1:42 a.m. he was woken up by a loud noise and looked out the window. What he saw wasn't pretty: two men targeted a parked car and stole tools from the trunk. The perpetrators acted brutally by smashing the rear window of the vehicle. They then fled in a large, black vehicle, which they drove along Berliner Straße towards Breslauer Straße before finally disappearing towards Kaiserwerther Straße.
The police are now looking for additional witnesses who can provide information about this incident. Investigations have already been started by Criminal Investigation Department 14. Anyone who has observed something or can give tips is asked to call 02131 3000 or email poststelle.rhein-kreis-neuss@polizei.nrw.de to turn. The press office of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district police authority can also be reached on 02131 300-14000 or via email pressestelle.neuss@polizei.nrw.de here.
Current trends in motor vehicle crime
This incident is part of a worrying trend: According to the Federal Criminal Police Office 15,924 cars were permanently stolen in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of 9 percent compared to the previous year. The focus is particularly on vehicles from foreign production, especially models from Toyota, Hyundai and Kia. Similarly, the number of stolen trucks witnessed a worrying trend with an increase of 48.4 percent.
The groups of perpetrators are often well organized and use modern technology to carry out their schemes. A particularly common method is theft via “keyless go” systems, in which radio link extenders are used to intercept the signal from vehicle keys. To protect themselves, vehicle owners should store their keys in a safe place and use special boxes or aluminum cases.
With the increase in such crimes comes the need for more intensive security measures. Police and vehicle manufacturers are working more closely together than ever to effectively combat vehicle crime. Clearly: It is important to be vigilant and pay attention through the streets, because something is going on!
