16-year-old conductor Jakob Pagels inspires Soest with his talent!
Jakob Pagels, a 16-year-old student at the Conrad-von-Soest-Gymnasium, is about to embark on an exciting musical adventure.
The talented young man is training to become a conductor at the Youth Academy of the Westphalian School of Music and the Münster University of Music. This academy, which only offers 30 training places, has it all. Future conductors like Jakob benefit from comprehensive training that includes individual lessons, ensemble and chamber music as well as theory. A certain level of competitiveness is also encouraged: the academy organizes master classes and gives students the opportunity to take part in competitions, while facilitating encounters with prominent artists. This diverse training is supported by close cooperation with general education schools in order to integrate musical activities into the children's everyday lives Uni Münster.
Jakob's musical journey began at the tender age of four. At that time he took violin lessons from Jin Kim. At the age of ten he switched to piano lessons with Christoph Hengst. Since last year he has had the opportunity to further develop his talents at the youth academy, where he can stay until he graduates from high school. Beyond the musical abilities, Jakob wants to get the best out of the ensemble and attaches great importance to the depth of the music. Bernd-Udo Winker, the artistic director of the Soest Symphony Orchestra, has already discovered his special talent and will sit at Jakob's side with his violin at the upcoming summer serenade concert in the Blue Hall of the town hall.
The big concert
On July 5, 2025, Jakob will conduct for the first time. He will present the first movement from Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 82 in C major “The Bear”. An exciting moment not only for him, but also for the listeners, who can look forward to a varied program. In addition to Haydn's work, the young pianist Magdalena Pflüger from the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Music High School in Berlin will perform Beethoven's Romance for Violin and Orchestra in F major, op. 50, as well as the Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, op. 15. The tickets cost a moderate 12 euros Soester Anzeiger.
A look at the future
For Jakob, the serenade concert will certainly be a milestone on his musical path. In addition to training at the youth academy, he is also involved in the North Rhine-Westphalia State Youth Orchestra as a violinist and takes part in various projects and concerts.
It is impressive how the music academy creates time and space for young talents to develop and discover their creativity. Music is a passion for many, and with the right support, many talents will make it big.
