Construction of noise barriers: Soest is planning big changes for the city center!
Deutsche Bahn has big plans for Soest city center: Today it was announced that noise barriers are planned to be erected along the railway line to improve living quality. The measure is intended to bring a noticeable improvement for both residents and travelers. The noise barriers are an important step in reducing the noise level in the area and at the same time increasing urban development compatibility, as Deutsche Bahn also emphasizes in its sustainable measures.
But while most people in Soester can be happy about the positive effects, road users have to expect restrictions from September 30, 2025. The Walburg underpass will be closed to all traffic until October 3rd. For drivers, this means a detour that leads eastwards via Walburger-Osthofen-Wallstraße and westwards via Brüder-Walburger-Wallstraße. However, pedestrians can avoid through the station building, which defuses the situation somewhat.
Sustainable solutions for noise protection
Another exciting aspect of the new noise barriers is the use of innovative technologies such as the MetaWindow. This unique, transparent and highly absorbent sound barrier can replace conventional walls one-to-one without losing acoustic effectiveness. Berthold Huber, Head of Infrastructure, is convinced that this combination of attractive appearance and high functionality offers advantages for both residents and travelers. The MetaWindow walls not only improve noise protection for adjacent properties, but also ensure more light and less shading, a clear advantage for urban development.
What is particularly interesting is that Deutsche Bahn also responds to the wishes of local residents during construction. In Lübeck, an online vote is already being offered on the design of the new noise barriers, a measure that is intended to promote increased acceptance of the construction projects in areas important for tourism.
Traffic measures and preparations
With the closure of the Walburger underpass there will be another restriction: from October 7th to 10th, 2025, the underpass between Katroper Weg and Hammer Weg will also be completely closed. Pedestrians and cyclists also have to accept a detour that leads via Tinenkamp, Bergenring and Hammer Landstrasse.
The city of Soest’s contact details are available for anyone who has questions or suggestions about the construction project. Thorsten Bottin from the Press and Public Relations Office will be happy to answer any questions citizens may have by calling +49 (02921) 103-9045 or by email pressestelle@soest.de can achieve.
The implementation of these measures embodies the desired bridge between modern noise protection and the needs of city residents. Deutsche Bahn is staying on the ball and ensuring that not only the tracks but also the living environment in Soest are raised to a new standard.
