Soest celebrates: Manfred Maas new king of the citizen shooters!

There was a lot going on in Soest on the last weekend in June: the shooting festivals are entering the next round and six shooting clubs have crowned new rulers. The focus was particularly on the citizens' shooting club, whose ceremony culminated with the new king, Manfred Maas, and Queen Annette. The royal dignity was won with a total of 282 shots, and the new royal couple is the direct successor to Rouven and Christine Becke.

The festival began on Friday evening with the Great Tattoo, followed by a parade in front of the town hall, where the anticipation for the coming days was palpable. On Saturday the “2night Party Band” rocked the Schützenhof and brought atmosphere to the party guests. Now the seats next to the new royal couple are not empty: In Mülheim, Marc Arens secured the royal dignity with the 164th shot and can be happy about his wife Hanna's crown. Markus Baumann became the new king in Deiringsen with the 87th shot, and here too the queen can be happy about her own wife Annette.

Traditions and highlights

The shooting festivals have a long tradition in Germany, and the celebrations in the Soest district follow a tried and tested pattern that has developed over the years. There are not only competitions for the royal dignity, but also numerous traditions that are interconnected. It is customary for the courtyards to be decorated again on the Monday after the festival. The week before the festival starts with the “Bobbing into the Great Pond”, a spectacular event in which three “Maleficants” are publicly rocking into the pond. The preparations and excitement leading up to the shooting festival are a big affair that involves all members of the shooting clubs.

On Sunday, the morning pint from 12:15 p.m. was another highlight, followed by anniversary celebrations from 1 p.m., which honored both new and long-standing members. A wonderful opportunity for the shooters to celebrate the community.

Future shooting festivals in view

The festivities also continued in Deiringsen and Hovestadt-Nordwald. The shooting festival in Oberense runs from June 28th to 30th with a parade, a shooting ball and a church service. There will also be big celebrations in Hovestadt-Nordwald from June 28th to 30th, including honors and a special shooting mass.

What the numerous celebrations in the region have in common is that they represent an important part of social life and strengthen people's solidarity. The shooting festivals have a long tradition not only in Soest, but also in many other cities and communities that will continue for generations after us. Over 15,000 shooting clubs across Germany show that the nostalgic magic of shooting festivals is still very popular in modern times. More on this reported Soester Anzeiger and the Citizens Shooters Soest page. Whether in Soest or elsewhere, the celebrations are a matter of the heart for the community and are firmly anchored in the annual calendar.
