On June 13, 2025, the eagerly awaited Soest Old Town Magic begins, which opens its doors in the historic old town of Soest. The opening ceremony is considered the highlight of this traditional event, organized by Mayor Dr. Eckhard Ruthemeyer classified it as an event with a supra-regional appeal. This year the event will take place on the hottest day of the year, which should increase the anticipation and the high number of visitors. Many guests have already arrived to enjoy the atmosphere and experience the numerous performances.
The artists will offer a diverse program ranging from a flea circus to fire-eating couples. Snake women, archers and an extraordinary postman with special powers promise entertainment for young and old. The guests can also expect the artist group “Wise Fools”, who will compete with Olympic flair. It is no wonder that in the past the spectators have shown their joy with warm applause and even monetary donations, because the event is perceived by visitors as one of the most beautiful in Soest alongside the fair.
The program in detail
The city's festive atmosphere and Mediterranean flair attract many visitors every year. Claudia Schmidt from the Soest Economic Development Agency WMS draws a consistently positive conclusion: “Great attendance, lots of happy faces, perfect weather” was what the old town magic also sparked during the last editions. What is particularly pleasing is the high number of regional and international artists who are coming this year from ten nations and four continents. According to kalender-soest.de, around 15 artist acts are expected, with performances ranging from spectacular, comical to poetic.
A varied program is planned for Saturday. The Soester Circuscentrum Balloni will start at 12 p.m. and in the evening the event will end with a 50-minute variety show at 11 p.m. at the Petrikirchhof Nord. Sunday also has a lot to offer: from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. regional artists and groups such as the amateur musical group Bördeway Soest, the group Boogie Woogie, Circuscentrum Balloni as well as various choirs and dance groups will perform.
The shopping experience
In addition, a variety of shops open on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., so that visitors have the opportunity to do a little shopping and wander through the historical backdrop. The positive feedback about the relaxed atmosphere and the cozy get-together shows that the old town magic is not only a place for entertainment, but also offers a wonderful opportunity for community and exchange.
