Fascinating insights into history await visitors Soest feud, a medieval festival that will take place from August 1st to 3rd, 2025 in the picturesque setting of the historic Soest Wallanlage. This spectacular event is not only a celebration for the whole family, but also an impressive reenactment of a historical event that brings to life the siege of Soest by the Archbishop of Cologne in the 15th century.
Under the motto “Re-enactment of the Great Storm on the City of Soest in 1447”, around 900 actors from 12 nations will bring the festival to life with historical clothing and artistic crafts. What could be more exciting than enlivening the streets of Soest with jugglers, traders and even soldiers in historical armor?
Parade and special highlights
An integral part of the Soest Feud is the big parade that moves through the old town on August 2nd at 12:30 p.m. The spectators witness an impressive spectacle that makes the spirit of the Middle Ages tangible. Around 1,000 participants, including the Young Duke Johann von Kleve, accompany the entry. The actors will not only impress with their appearance, but will also recreate the historical events around the city.
The program also offers exciting performances with cannons, sword fighting and archery over the three festival days. Spectacle at its best, and there is also a lot for fans of crafts to discover: craftsmen and minstrels will present their artistic skills and give visitors a real insight into the craft guilds of the Middle Ages.
Tickets and supporting program
Tickets are on sale in advance via the website www.so-ist-soest.de available. Regular tickets cost 14 euros, discounted tickets are available for 10 euros - but they are standing room only! However, due to the volume, the event is not suitable for children under 6 years of age.
If you want to experience even more, you should definitely visit the “army camp” at the foot of the city wall, where the actors bring the victories and defeats of days gone by to life - entry costs here, but the visit is free for children up to 6 years old.
Another highlight is the musical “Das Kalkül”, which will be performed in the town hall courtyard from July 23rd to 26th. Here too, tickets are available in advance and are available at a reduced price of 28 euros or 16 euros. From July 28th, lectures and concerts will provide another entertaining supporting program that increases anticipation for the big event.
