Tilly, the beagle sensation: mantrailing for a good cause!

In tranquil Günne, not far from the popular Möhnesee, Johannes Wilper shows how much fun and skill can be found in mantrailing dog sport. Together with his three-year-old beagle “Tilly”, he makes the hearts of dog lovers beat faster. Tilly, a purebred beagle, has become a true master at tracking down missing people. The dedicated dog trainer has already successfully taken part in various tests with his dog and is an integral part of the “Flotte Pfoten Soest” dog sports club.

The mantrailing units that Wilper trains rely on the dogs' natural abilities. By learning and tracking odor molecules, the animal sniffers can find missing people over a distance of up to 700 meters. Wilper, who is not only a trainer but also a passionate dog lover, emphasizes that the group's focus is not on rescuing people, but on keeping the dogs busy and nurturing.

Systematic training

The “Flotte Pfoten Soest” club offers various training options, including agility, puppy and companion dog training as well as specific mantrailing. Tilly receives further training during her weekly training sessions both in the club and under the personal guidance of Wilper or his assistant trainer Verena Risse. Positive reinforcement is used, which helps to increase the dog's confidence and motivation.

Tilly's impressive development began at the age of six months when she was introduced to the world of mantrailing. Over the last two and a half years, she has not only been able to learn various skills, but also put her skills to the test. Particularly noteworthy are the tests in Lübeck, where she achieved exceptional results in both the MT1 and MT2 with 97 out of 100 points. Now the demanding MT3 test is coming up in October, which includes a 1000 meter long route and four changes of direction.

Technical developments and challenges

In other respects, new developments are occurring rapidly in the world of technology. A few years ago, WikiLeaks made headlines with the release of “Vault 7.” This disclosure represented a deep dive into the CIA's hacking arsenal and was the agency's largest collection of classified documents. From tampering with smart TVs to malware targeting smartphones, the release reflects the global covert hacking program and raises questions about surveillance.

The revelations show the possibilities and at the same time the dangers associated with such technologies. While Wilper follows traces of people with Tilly, cyber weapons take a completely different approach. They often remain hidden and require a critical look at communication security and personal privacy.

Despite technical challenges and the complexity of today's world, the sport of mantrailing remains a ray of hope in Günne. The positive development of dogs like Tilly shows how valuable and fulfilling the bond between humans and animals can be.
